Yeah but clowns? As Yatzhee would say, that's entry level creativity in the horror department. That's one step above Zombies and one step below zombies that can run on the rung of cliche.

And to be fair, I don't we Yanks invented the clown, or its inherent unnerving-ness.
I don't know, clowns kind of unnerve me.

And what I kind of meant by the prior remark is all the cases I've heard about this spooky clown phenomena seem to come from rural/suburban USA. Which makes sense because that's where most people live in the US. And the creepyness factor goes down if you have hundreds of people around you.

If your really unnerved by clowns, I suggest you hang some tangelos in front of your window at night.

'aint no way no clown is getting in through a 2nd story window when his equilibrium is all messed up.

Lol. Ain't clowns you gotta worry about laddo...well, not in physical terms, the psychological damage is a whole other story however. Now, furry woodland creatures with big claws and load roars...not a thing to leave your kids around.
Ahh, media and fear. If only more of the public could utilise critical thinking.
Now come a little closer, you have something incredibly tasty on your face.
What about clown bears? That's some deep psychological and physiological trauma right there.

So the high school I graduated from got threatened with clown attacks. Just crazy.

Also been talking about this on the radio, some people are thinking the government is behind it so it'll distract us from the election.

If so, best distraction ever! Just the idea of it makes me smile.

So...what, is this whole thing just a case of the internet leaking into real life again?
Nah, clowns have been scary since before the internet. But these new clowns are at least infecting social networks, telling people where they'll be, who they wanna kill and whatnot. Probably not the best idea.

I caught on to the "scared of clowns for humor" fad for a while but it just seems dumb to me now. Clowns are funny, and the reason why scary clowns work is the same reason why scary toys work: they're not supposed to be scary. I'm pretty sure the actual number of people suffering from a clown phobia is fairly small.

I mean come on, clowns are about the only part of circuses besides acrobats that haven't been ruined by things like "knowledge" and "basic human decency." I think it's high time we give clowns the respect they deserve as comedians.
Amen to that. And a rather specialized form of comedy, too; there's a lot of what are essentially gymnastics in taking what's often rapid-fire slapstick comedy designed to be visible from a relatively long distance without getting hurt. But then, clowns not getting deserved respect was already common enough to need no explanation at the debut of Pagliacci. And now we've got people assuming widespread a fear that very few likely actually have, and for what? A hackneyed joke?

Perhaps it's time to force the issue, and kill two birds with one stone by unleashing upon the world an army of spider clowns.

I guess its meme time? Punks in clown costumes hanging out in a cemetery.

I mean for fucks sake, can you get any cheesier or cliche?! Why not have your little sister paint her face white, wet her hair, and wear a dirty white dress while standing very still in hallways to creep people out?!

OH WAIT!

Its like we're all supposed to be in junior high again and still think the Ring is scary.
Meh, you want to really freak people out? Get a dog. Shower it with love and affection, socialize it so that it will happily run up to lick everyone it meets...then dress it up as a spider for Halloween and watch everyone scream in terror as your cute widdle ball of fwuff says hi to them.

Americans are weird... I did hear about this creepy clown cult and frankly I support it.

Life is boring if there are no eccentric people.
I am with you one hundred percent. Also, I think Killer Klowns From Outer Space is on Netflix right now.

Apparently it's been happening around my neighborhood. Although it's crossing the line from stupid jokes into potentially dangerous, as some of them are apparently carrying knives. Even if the idiots have no intention to use them, a person dressed up like a serial killer with a knife trying to look spooky is fair grounds for someone to freak out and defend themselves in my book.

The problem seems to be that some of these clowns are taking it too far and actually hurting people. I'm pretty sure I've heard people have been attacked by clowns with knives in Newcastle and some have been arrested.

Yeah the problem isn't that people are dressing up as clowns, it's that some are hanging around in gloomy off the road type areas and trying to lure kids into the woods with them. Which takes it from harmless, eccentric fun to serial killer/paedophile vibes.

Yep. The internet is bored again and news media outlets are just running out of things to report. Well, there is a lot going on in the world but fuck it. Let's just broadcast stupid internet memes. Hows that Harambe shit going??

*flips the fucking bird to the world*
