I just hope they don't over-Americanize it by making all the characters one-dimensional and making the weapons behave realistically (I still want to kill zombies with teddy bears)or just making it a bland FPS.

I liked the game the way it was, the only part that seemed overly Japanese to me was the photoshoot mission near the end of the game where you take modeling photos of that one girl.

Huh. Too Japanese, huh?

You know sometimes that's codename for "Not hardcore enough" AKA: has an actual sense of humor, not "gritty" enough, etc.

Capcom, don't sell out to the dark side! We like a sense of humor every now and then!

I didn't see any over Japanese action going on....that would have been sort of cool actually. The only thing I didn't like about the game was the overall timer......I like killing zombies @ my own pace....but yeah the game was good overall, hopefully Dead Rising 2 will be awesome

I suppose there was some, in terms of outfits and such...but, seeing it as too japanese?

...seems a little far-fetched for me to swallow

Once again, something is ruined by the fact that most Americans are intolerant of things that are different.
I love brash generalizations and sweeping assumptions (Number 2 is going to suck now, right?).
Makes me remember I'm on the internet.

The game did have a Japanese feeling to it. The dialog, the characters, the story...all very eastern. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it's true. I didn't know Capcom made it when I tried the demo, but I knew it was a Japanese company right away. Once I saw it was Capcom, it just made sense.

We'll see how this works with number 2!
So long as I still get to kill hordes of undead with park benches, I'm sure I won't be unhappy.
I never said it didn't have a Japanese feel. Most other countries think that Americans can't relate to things that aren't American, like we're in our own bubble. And the sad part is that they're mostly correct. (Freedom fries?) So I'm saying the game is going to be stripped of some of its uniqueness because of those overpatriotic people who try to build up the States and demonize other countries. (i.e. Republicans)

EDIT: AAAAAND, I'm on probation for saying that some of the people in my own country are intolerant, pretty much proving my point right there.

Ok, you really shouldn't call out republicans like that, most republicans (like me) are very open to other cultures and know that America can make mistakes. you really shouldn't put a huge group of people into the same category, many republicans are hard-working, accepting people, same with many democrats the only difference between democrats and republicans is a disagreement about the size of the government control.
Republicans:Small government
Democrats:Large government
I won't report you, just don't stereotype on this site, not many users take kindly to it.

Bah, why do the Japanese always seem to think that they need to be more western? Is that just an excuse for if the game get low sales?
pretty much this. They really do seem to use this as a cop-out at times, especially capcom.

OT: Meh. There were quite a things I didn't like about the first game, but there were also good ideas in there. Maybe by making it "more western" they will atleast take out that fucking timer. I want to play your game, dammit, don't give me a time limit.

I would say that it was only too Japanese in the way that Japanese developers try to aim a game towards western audiences by having huge amounts of gore, violence and cleavage that could deflect heavy munitions quite comfortably (if you need examples of games like this, Dead Rising and Ninja Gaiden should be all the evidence I need), in short, an attempt at 'Americanising' it.

It's an understandbale thing to do (considering the difference in the mentality and tastes of eastern and western audiences) and it does make for some very entertaining games (hell, I had fun with both Dead Rising and Ninja Gaiden and I know people who enjoy JRPGs and Japanese text based games).

Look at it is this way, compare the original Japanese version of The Ring to Evil Dead, both are different takes on the same genre (and are brilliant in their own ways because of this).

Your logic makes no sense. Your first bit, (most countries blahblah) makes sense. But you just kind of jumped off on a tangent. Disliking something different has nothing to do with being overly-patriotic, and it sure as hell has nothing to do with being Republican.

I don't like Japanese things because I find them weird. When I don't buy Japanese things, I'm not building up America. America scores zero points. It's just that I don't like Japanese things. Hell, I'm not even bashing Japan. I'm just ignoring them. They don't gain or lose points either.

And, on topic, this makes no sense because, as said, I don't like Japanese things but I fucking loved Dead Rising.

Your probation is fucking retarded, though. I'll give you that.

Actually I feel there is less differance between Japanese and American gamers than many people want to admit, however I won't go into that here, other than to say I think it largely comes down to the Japanese gaming public wanting a lot of games to stay Japan-exclusive.

Dead Rising was a fine game, and sold well enough to become one of the Platinum classics. Also it was pretty much a launch title, and still manages to hold a decent fan base even now, with quotes by Frank West becoming a part of universal gaming culture "I've covered wars Ya Know".

To me it seems like Capcom is probably trying to say that they want to dumb down the game, removing things like the "PP" aquisition, and leveling up and such, which to me would destroy a good part of the game's charm. The "too Japanese" thing being an excuse in hoping they can take a big success and turn it into a monsterous one by making it even more casual.

Really, the only problem I had with "Dead Rising" was the time limit to stay on the main plot, and that's one of the big reasons why I never completed my own copy of the game (though I have played it elsewhere). Generally speaking I am not a big fan of time limits in games to begin with, especially ones with a lot to explore and experiment with like that one.

Still, we will see what happens when DR 2 finally hits. I don't consider this to be great news though. Pretty much I wanted a bigger version of the first game, with more stuff, and no time limits in getting to your objectives, letting you take the time to goof off when you want to.
Pretty much why I got rid of it. Also, I didn't have an HD television at the time so reading anything was nigh impossible. I tend to get annoyed with timelimits when I want to faff about. Dead Rising is one of those games that seemed built for faffing about.

Are you kidding? I have to agree with Logan on this one, but whatever they considered to be "too Japanese" made the game all that much better for me. Oh well...I still have high hopes for this game though.

you make no sense whatsoever, read the rules pal, bashing people in general more offen then not ends up in probation, if not worse

OT: Great... take a idea that works and screw it up, why not.

That's the issue, Americans aren't very much exposed to other cultures, so many of them come off as weird. As I said, many Americans are in a bubble. Hell, neither of my parents, who are in their 50's have left North America in their entire lives. Now, I'm not insulting you, since I don't know you, but you have to admit that we're a pretty closed off country.

They mean it's too Japanese in that it was too difficult for Western audiences, who incessantly whined about the PRIMARY GAME MECHANIC of time management: "it's too difficult and frustrating, whaaaaambulance!". Thus why they changed it for the Wii version.

IMO the time management is the only thing that made the game stand out and really brought a level of anxiety to the game that all other games lack. Every other game you can take as long as you want and if you screw something up you just reload from the last checkpoint.

I find the "too Japanese" statement a little suspect. Compared to what? Dead Rising 2? Oh wait... that's not even out yet. Because the main input came from Japan for the coding of the game, what kind of stupid-ass statement is that to say it was too Japanese?! So any game that Capcom makes in Canada can fall victim to the criticism that it is too Canadian? Ah hell, Blue Castle is from Canada... wished I had actually known that before I wrote it. I looked it up after I had said it to see where Blue Castle is from. Great... but still, this move sounds completely stupid based on their Japanese comment. So, they want a game that appeals more to Americans, but won't develop the game in America. Does this not sound hypocritical to anyone else by chance?

At least the final boss wasn't a giant octopus that wanted to rape you with its tentacles while you were dressed in a school-girl uniform. THAT would have been entirely too Japanese for me.

Nice spelling. I've already repeated this in another post, I'm not going to do it again for someone who can't spell "sense."

Capcom is really trying to make itself seem like a Western developer, huh?

I'm not sure whether or not I like that. I wish they would just focus on making good games, regardless of the design style being Japanese or Western.
