Alright, i'm done.

Also, anybody else think it's ironic, that the dev thats makeing Dead Rising 2 more "American" is located in my glorius motherland of canada?

They're making the next one more western?

Frank west: "I've covered wars you know"
Marcus Pheonix: "Let's kill some grubs"

*both rip off shirts run into zombie horde with chainsaws, blood stains smear the camera*

Like many others, I don't see what was so Japanese about the game.

Just you all watch; in a bout of irony the new version will have a long haired teenager with a huge sword, a girl with a pendant given to her by her mom which is the key to ending the zombie invasion and you'll get an annoying side character you're reluctant to use.

I didn't notice that too much, but maybe the next game will be better to play. Maybe the shooting system won't suck so hard...

....How....how was it too Japanese?! I found it perfectly good, I wish I still had it. Well I can only hope it doesn't become to westernized.

In what way was it 'too Japanese'?!? // I mean the plot was straight out of an american film, as mention above been 'Dawn of the Dead', the main character looked nothing like the normal characters you get from Japanese games // Granted yes there were aspects of R Evil and Silent Hill in the game play but not the theme feel of the game

But the other question you have to ask is 'how are they goin to make it more American?' // You got to kill 1000's of zombies, pick up everything and use as a weapon and got to beat up some red necks, what more could they do?

Once again, something is ruined by the fact that most Americans are intolerant of things that are different.
I love brash generalizations and sweeping assumptions (Number 2 is going to suck now, right?).
Makes me remember I'm on the internet.

The game did have a Japanese feeling to it. The dialog, the characters, the story...all very eastern. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it's true. I didn't know Capcom made it when I tried the demo, but I knew it was a Japanese company right away. Once I saw it was Capcom, it just made sense.

We'll see how this works with number 2!
So long as I still get to kill hordes of undead with park benches, I'm sure I won't be unhappy.
I never said it didn't have a Japanese feel. Most other countries think that Americans can't relate to things that aren't American, like we're in our own bubble. And the sad part is that they're mostly correct. (Freedom fries?) So I'm saying the game is going to be stripped of some of its uniqueness because of those overpatriotic people who try to build up the States and demonize other countries. (i.e. Republicans)

EDIT: AAAAAND, I'm on probation for saying that some of the people in my own country are intolerant, pretty much proving my point right there.
I didn't really play enough of the game to get any reliable opinion. I stopped near the begin because the games fails to specify how to shake zombies off when they grab hold, leaving me to mash buttons and pary I hit the right ones. I also hated how free mode had you need to eat every minute or you die. I don't think people starve to death in four minutes.

As to why I quoted you don't say just because something changes that means it's garenteed to be crap. I get enough of that crap from senior citizens. And who actually uses the term freedom fires anyway? They shouldn't even really be called french fries either since they come from Belgium.
My exact words were "stripped of some of its uniqueness." I didn't say "becomes crap." The game will probably still be enjoyable, but as the OP said, the Japanese feel of DR was part of its charm, and I think it'll lose that because they think that Americans are afraid of things that are different, and they have good reason to think so.

Your logic makes no sense. Your first bit, (most countries blahblah) makes sense. But you just kind of jumped off on a tangent. Disliking something different has nothing to do with being overly-patriotic, and it sure as hell has nothing to do with being Republican.

I don't like Japanese things because I find them weird. When I don't buy Japanese things, I'm not building up America. America scores zero points. It's just that I don't like Japanese things. Hell, I'm not even bashing Japan. I'm just ignoring them. They don't gain or lose points either.

And, on topic, this makes no sense because, as said, I don't like Japanese things but I fucking loved Dead Rising.

Your probation is fucking retarded, though. I'll give you that.
That's the issue, Americans aren't very much exposed to other cultures, so many of them come off as weird. As I said, many Americans are in a bubble. Hell, neither of my parents, who are in their 50's have left North America in their entire lives. Now, I'm not insulting you, since I don't know you, but you have to admit that we're a pretty closed off country.
Fine, if that's your opinion, go ahead with it. But it has nothing to do with patriotism or intolerance or Republicanism.

Sorry, it does. People like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh were all mad at Obama for "Going on an apology tour" because they were upset that he was actually admitting America made a mistake. On average, Republicans are less tolerant than Democrats. And patriotism is pretty much designed to break down other cultures.

I didn't really think about it until reading this.... but yeah it does have a rather Japanese feel to it. But honestly who cares.... any game that lets me kill gordes of zombies by running them over with a lawnmower, and then beating the few stragglers to death with it is cool is my book.

They mean it's too Japanese in that it was too difficult for Western audiences, who incessantly whined about the PRIMARY GAME MECHANIC of time management: "it's too difficult and frustrating, whaaaaambulance!". Thus why they changed it for the Wii version.

IMO the time management is the only thing that made the game stand out and really brought a level of anxiety to the game that all other games lack. Every other game you can take as long as you want and if you screw something up you just reload from the last checkpoint.
Thank you very much for summing up my exact thoughts in a more coherent way than I could. That sense of anxeity you describe also applies to the save system that everyone cried about. These idiosyncracies made this game what it was. That sense of dread combined with wacky fun is what it made it one of my favorite games of all time.

People who complain about these aspects are why games are slowly becoming very similar. The fact that we even have a phrase such as "too Japanese for western audiences" bothers me.

Uhm... I have no idea what Capcom is talking about. The game didn't seem "Japanese" to me. The most off-beat thing really was the Servbot heads from the Mega Man Legends series (shown in the picture in the article here), but people who didn't know about Servbots just called them LEGO heads. :|

They mean it's too Japanese in that it was too difficult for Western audiences, who incessantly whined about the PRIMARY GAME MECHANIC of time management: "it's too difficult and frustrating, whaaaaambulance!". Thus why they changed it for the Wii version.
Those people suck. The save system in Dead Rising was fine and part of what made the game so fun. And if that's what they mean by making the game "less Japanese" for Dead Rising 2, then shame on them.

[<Shinji! Shinji!]

[They say our game is too Japanese for Americans to enjoy!]

[I'm sure, Shinji, but be careful. Frank West might hear you and remember that Dead Rising had a better story than most American games.]

The wacky boss fights, restoring health with orange juice, the hyper-effectiveness of melee in a game featuring guns, text only conversations with the survivors you've collected, superhuman characters, level up mechanics outside an RPG with overt stats. These are designs that are far more common in Japanese games than American ones. I don't agree that it was "too" anything but it was decidedly Japanese even if the plot had a heavy western influence.

Too Japanese? Really? I'd have gone with repetitive or tedious. I just loved how it had to explain every little thing like it was your first
play-through. Also the aiming system was completely buggered and the controls were just in general rubbish.
