Capcom took a huge step back and while doing so landed in a big hole of deerrrp. Did they not take into account people that play a game once, like it a lot, then want to play it from the start with no extras again?

WTF? I got a warning for simply agreeing that it would encourage piracy?
That is because the way you worded it, it sounded like you were encouraging piracy, not saying that you agreed it would.

I'm betting what you said would have been fine if you had switched "encourage piracy" with "hacking" and put a simple "it will" before it. It then would be fine because it would read like you are agreeing with Andy that it would possibly encourage piracy.

Take the advice that the forum rules page gives on how before you post you should read over it and think about how it might be taken. Because no matter how many times I read the post you got a warning for, it sounds like you were supporting piracy.

For fuck's sake! Excuse my language.

Seriously, second-hand sales exist in everything (but PC games), if you don't think Gamestop has to pay the publishers for their games, you're wrong. Get over it, you're not losing money hand over fist, you're not making as much money as you want to be making. Why not just have guys break into Gamestops and key all the game discs. That'd work a helluva lot better.

Good Lord. No one used to care about this, what the heck happened?

*scoffs* If there was ever a design choice that encouraged people to buy a used copy, with a lot of the stuff unlocked or strong times already on the cartridge, this is certainly it.

Capcom, not only was this a silly move, but you just gave people another reason to buy this used over new. So, thank you for making it more sensable for future owners of this game to buy used, aside from those copies being cheaper to begin with.

Do ten minutes of research and you'll find that this article is wrong; The Mercenaries is basically the merc. mini-games from Res. 4 and 5. There is no "campaign" to play, however, because it is an arcade-style shooter. There are timed rounds, and HIGH SCORES are saved.

And unlocks, and characters, and skins. Mercenaries has all that too. I guess what has people really worried is that it's a slippery slope. What's to stop you from never restarting the next Dead Rising game or just re-unlocking the Street Fighter roster again.

I assume you mean "If you do think that Gamestop hast to pay the publishers for their games, you're wrong"

If so, yes.

I imagine the rage started with this conversation (And I just guessed at the numbers. I have no idea)

Bean Counter: Well Sir, we just got the numbers on the new game in
Publisher: Excelent. Lay it on me
Bean Counter: We sold 4 Million copies of the game
Publisher: YESSSSS
Bean Counter: And about 6.5 Million people logged into our servers
Publisher: NOOOOOO. That means that we lost 2.5 Million sales! OH NOES!!
Bean Counter: Actaully, sir, it just means that those people bought it used.
Publisher: SHUT UP! WE LOST MONEY HERE! GAMESTOP IS SATAN!!!
Bean Counter: Sir, please, calm down, and please, take the kitten out of your mouth!
Publisher: Shut up! Now, bring me a puppy to kick!

Or something like that

Look up "The First Sale Doctrine". You will understand why publishers are in the wrong

Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.

Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, duuuumb.

Granted, the game doesn't have a campaign per se but it still will affect the gameplay. The character upgrades will stick from what I gather.

So the game should cost about $5 because it seems to be one single new playthrough allowed.
...and if they get away with this without too much backlash, we may see RPG's taking this route next. This is a foot-in-the-door move. They eventually want you to buy a new copy for every playthrough of every game. Finished with the latest Pokemon game? Wanna let your brother play it? Nope, he'll have to buy his own copy.

It seems to me that game companies are using piracy and used sales as an excuse to put unrealistic limits on games that ultimately puts more money in their bank account.
It's okay though. At the end of the day it's only 3DS. I don't see this working on a console as the drive doesn't write to the disc. And it would never be accepted to creating save files on the hard drive that are permanent.
What would and would not be accepted is based on what has already been accepted. If it's accepted on the 3DS, then it will be easier for people to accept it on other consoles. I can already hear the argument: "It doesn't matter where the save file is stored, they did it on the 3DS and it worked fine".

A new thing introduced this gen are locked save files, I think all 3 consoles have some games that have locked save files for whatever reason (online play, achievements). The lock can get tighter and once people accept it on the 3DS (and many will in the name of hating Gamestop and pirates), it will. Sure you can hack your console to unlock save files but most people don't because there are consequences.

I fear where the game industry is going.

Oh, well, that is just the biggest dick move ever. Aren't they meant to stop piracy, not invent new ways for people to justify it?
Many people will probably pirate the game entirely because of this move. I won't be playing the game myself because I do not have the required platform and I don't have any interest in it what so ever.

Creative!? This is just stupid. I don't know about you, but I like being able to delete old saves and start from scratch. What Capcom is essentially doing is creating a $40 rental. When it comes to fighting piracy, this is almost as bad as the Ubisoft DRM.

Used vehicles are fine, used clothes are even fine in some places, used music and movie discs, used musical instruments etc. You can buy pretty much everything that's been used except video games. Who the fuck do these guys think they are? We need to fight these assholes. We need to boycott their games.

Eh, Gamestop doesn't have to pay to sell used games, but Gamestop also sells brand-spanking new games (that's what I was talking about) they have to buy them wholesale just like every other product and sell them resale. Gamestop has the potential to lose money if a new game doesn't do well, but they tend to buffer on the used side.

You don't see any publisher not selling their games to Gamestop, do you? They would lose a lot more money if they didn't. That's kind of like complaining that your buddy who is selling your new car for you is also selling used ones on the side.

I'm sure where Gamestop makes most of their money though is in loyalty programs. Honestly trade in isn't that good, and it can take forever for a good game to drop any where near acceptable in price. I means they can still get forty bucks for a copy of Twilight Princess used (last time I checked).

I get that they want to make money, I'm all for that. I buy a lot of my games new because I know I want to play them, but then I buy some used too. I don't see Valve kicking in my door for buying Portal 2 used, but Gamestop was having a sale. Games are a big investment, but I can promise you I'm getting Skyrim new, ME 3 new, Witcher 2 new (when it comes out for Xbox), because I'm impatient.

I think Game companies should copy movies, sure you have the movie for the hear and now people, but drop it in price when it "goes to DVD" so to speak, and they kind of do that, but I don't think invasive DRM is the way to go, I don't think project ten dollar is the way to go.

I don't even have internet, so basically they're punishing me for buying new copies, but I buy them nonetheless. What do you want Publisher's my first-born child? Because I need to get married for that to happen.

You know what publishers COULD do to make money off of used sales? Sell them themselves. There is nothing stopping the publishers from offering money back on your used games, and then selling them themselves. But they would rather moan about GameStop being evil.

Sad, because I buy console games for my household (and my wife and I are both gamers), so if my wife or kid wants to play a game, they should be able to make their own save and start their own game; I am absolutely not going to buy 3 copies of Capcom's latest game just because they decide to turn it into a variant of crippleware. Ridiculous....and this has helped make my mind up not to get Mercenaries 3D at all, which was one of the games pushing me toward getting a 3DS in the first place.

There's probably a very easy way to get it all wiped without destroying the game, but I am not inclined towards programming and nor do I care about this game, so it's really a shoulder shrug for me.

Ooh sweet. Glad I am buying it new. Still if they ever start throwing a fucking online pass on their games I will be pissed.

So wait, it's a bad thing to buy games used?
When you buy the game used, the developer and publisher doesn't see any of that money. They only make money when the game is purchased new. Only the game retailer (gamestop) benefits, when games are resold.

Thus, game makers aren't too happy about used game sales.
