I despise every single thing on the internet like this. Although this one is not that bad some of them are damn hard to find out if what you are putting in is right.

Edit: Actually I take what I said back I just had an irritating run in where it gave me what looked like some Oriental writing symbol.

I'm getting it on almost every thread I post too, but if it lessens the strain on Escapist forum mods then I'll suck it up for the team.

Easier way to this? Fuck no, this is one of the easiest ways to deal with spam bots. I can't believe the self-entitlement of users on this forum that when they occasionally (since it says on the Tech-Team announcement that for posts it will only occur occasionally) have to spend an additional 10 fucking seconds to post, they all of a sudden think they should be entitled to something less obtrusive.

Huh it seems to be gone already...

Yeah unfortunately there isn't currently, a spam detection filter can only go so far and spam will just keep changing to avoid it.

A captcha is really the only sure-fire way to stop bot spams.
Not really, some people have cracked it.

Edit; since this is the same captcha as the one on 4chna following things goes;
*You only have to type 1 off the words correct
- The word won't have any special signs(, . ! ?)
- The word is always in the same font
*If the word is very pixely it´s a scanned word and also a fake word.
*If the word contains letters that are not in the English alphabet it´s also fake.
There are more rules but those are the easiest once to follow.
Some examples;
Easiest way to learn it is threw trial and error.

Captcha pisses the shit out of me. I think if I start getting it frequently, I'll honestly be on the Escapist less.

EDIT: FFFUUUUUUUUUU-

And I could imagine a big conspiracy of the Captcha guys making bots to attack certain websites, having the owners get Captcha, then add that website to the Captcha blacklist or something.

Well, captcha isn't really that bad, if your not a spam bot. It consits only of typing 2 words in plus really

In my experience the escapist is one of the sites I visit frequently without the need for a captcha. Where exactly is the spam the captcha is preventing?

It's only every few posts, to help catch bots off guard.

Although I haven't seen any spam here to warrant the Captcha. so whatever, I guess.

And for the rest of us who can't read them, it's kind of a middle finger from our favorite site.

While I do think the captchas are a good idea; I have had problems with them before. Sometimes I could be completely sure that I typed the words in correctly and it will somehow be wrong. I would also like it if it didn't occasionally fuse letters together into a jumbled mess. Especially when n's are together since it makes them look like a m. Let's see how many times it takes me to post this since I'm due for a captcha. Let's see... 1... 2.

I never saw much spam ever. Maybe 3 times in my entire stay here. Very odd that they'd implement something like this. Especially with such long ass things to type. Then again this would stop the cool people from posting "FIRST!".

just put a common sence knowledge problem in registration.... Artificial (bleh its bad that i type with a lisp as well, edit out mistake.) intelligence isn't that good so it will keep all but the most determined of bots out, dont waste your and our time with a stupid captcha per post. Do i really need to give an example of a common knowledge problem that will work here?

you know what i think i will

bot threw a brick at a window. It broke.

what broke?

You have way more faith in average intelligence and common sense than I do. ;)

OT
I think it is just another way to annoy the very typo prone me. I also swear that I typed one right, checked it twice before submitting and it still failed me. :(

Its random, it will only appear on your first post then reappear every 30-50 posts it is meant to cut-down the spam bots, we have ran into spam trolls before and probably will again with March Madness coming up, it was either this or start charging for a permanent way to stop spam-bots.

Be glad its the former, and know that if it was up to Virgil hates Captchas just as much as everyone here.
