When Captchas were introduced, people were understandably excited/annoyed whatever, but even now people are quoting them in their posts, often accompanied by 'what the hell?' or 'who programmed these things?!'

I get that when it's a comment on use of greek characters, or a bar code or something - that's all odd and amusing and all, but to quote "university aardvark" - really? You do realise that captchas are just random words picked out of scanned books, with your responses taken and used to help digitise libraries of books, right? Some guy's not sat behind a desk picking out funny word combinations for your amusement - IT'S NOT WORTH SHARING!

For instance, the one for this topic?

Random words, don't need to share them, no-one cares, so please, next time you have the urge to share two completely ordinary words please, think of the pixels and save them a bit of effort ;)

Not many people like them. So they mock them in order to help deal with it. Because captcha's are annoying as hell.

Am I the only person that gets Captchas in foreign languages? My keyboard isn't outfitted for Farsi, Kanji, or Hebrew.

But how else are they going to tell Lord Inglip that they received his instructions?

Yeah, those ones are fun. Mathematical equations can be amusing too, though my personal favourite is barcodes and static. Heaven knows why they were scanning those in!

I can't help but chuckle when I had a captcha with "Celebrate incest" as the words.

My biggest annoyance is that they are yet another Google property, and often leave me in multiple cycles of stop/refresh just to load the page.

I'm glad I've never had Math equations, foreign languages, bar codes, static, or anything except the occasional impossible youtube one where r's look like l's and n's.

So you make an entire thread asking us to not bother you with the occasional addition to our posts? Ok.

I especially love it when I get Greek characters, though- makes me chuckle, anyway. Would only be a problem if you had to type both words perfectly. Why don't people like Captchas, anyway? For a few extra seconds, we have some more security from robots. We all distrust robots, right?

I honestly think that captchas are underrated, and need to be more in use all over websites, especially YouTube.

However you are overreacting, there in no harm in posting funny, and amusing captchas, these giggles are a positive energy, and they don't harm anybody, It's okay if you don't understand all of them.

Half of the catpcha isn't even real. If you look, there's always one word with the same font. The other word is strange looking, uses weird characters, etc, etc. You can type ANYTHING for that word, and it will still accept it. And, it's going to digitize it. Incorrectly.

4chan in particular loves to use racist words for these.

That's what pisses me off in particular. Just it being such a shitty system.

I read the incest part while hearing the incest part of Yahtzee's recent podcast.

Ehh, they're fine

There was also a really fun thread for using captchas as game ideas. I got some good ideas out of that.

Sometimes sharing is good

Raise your hand if you refresh CAPTCHAs for easy ones. I dew.

I got one that said "Washington Machine" once. That was a good day.
