So kind of a simple premise: I grew up a 90's kid, so the full force of Pokemon and Yugioh consumed my childhood. One of the things I enjoyed about each was the card game aspect of each. Now that I'm older, I still play Yugioh with a few friends and on Dueling Network, and although I no longer play the Pokemon TCG, I've developed a love for Magic and of course, the classics like Blackjack, Texas Hold 'Em, etc. I've seen several TCG posts before, so my Escapist friends, why do you personally enjoy card games, and do you still play those you loved as a kid?

inb4 mention of strip poker

Card games are still cool, regardless of their current popularity. I mean, sure, I haven't gotten many chances to play recently because I moved and no one here plays it, but still.

Must admit I'm not a big TCG fan (although I did used to attempt to play with Pokemon cards back in the day) but I love me some card games like Blackjack and Texas Hold 'Em. The only card games I hate is Sevens. Just bores me to hell.

I still play Yugioh every now and then. I recently bought a structure deck based around fairy types. I was glad they got some attention.

Now I would like to see a plant type structure deck and is there any good Thunder type cards? (Besides Hamon Lord of striking Thunder) they don't get a lot of love.

I still collect Pokemon cards every now and then, despite my friend's protests on how older gen cards are better, to be honest I think I just buy them to spite him.

Also I'm looking forward to the Dragon type cards.

They haven't been written in English yet, but they look awesome.

I don't know much in the way of thunder being developed out, but there are a few very useful thunder types. Thunder King Rai-oh, i think that's how it's spelled, is a standard for most decks. As for plants, although they haven't made an official structure deck, they've expanded them vastly. And that fairy deck? Not fun for mine. haha

As a 90's kid also I've just been re-watching the Yu-Gi-Oh cartoon, I used to play the TCG as a kid, but now I'm into Magic: The Gathering (mainly because I now have the money to back it). There feels like a lot more possibilities, strategy and co-operation between the cards involved in Magic than Yu-Gi-Oh, which always felt like "spam cards till you win" (Just my opinion). I used to play the Pokemon TCG, but now I don't have any friends with cards, and given I'm already into Magic I don't feel the need to get any, not a bad game though.

I use to adore magic the gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh, it was quite a hit back at school.
But now those card games are just gathering dust on a shelf somewhere. The only time I play card games now is when a friend comes over with munchkins.

I used to play Pokémon a little, and Magic quite a bit. I still like Magic, but don't really have people to play with any more. I can't do any of that FNM stuff either, because I'm one of those people who think that Magic2010 ruined the game forever. I stopped buying more around Shadowmoor.

I do play a lot of board games and non-collectible card games. Haggis, Fairy Tale, Yomi and Cutthroat Caverns are some of my favourites.

I don't play traditional card games that much if I have something else available.

And by the way, the Caravan card game they had in Fallout: New Vegas is actually really fun to play with real cards too. Just get each player their own standard deck with two jokers and forget the deck customisation part. The rules are on Fallout Wiki, for example.

Card games are great mix of strategy and luck. The random element makes them quite dynamic and they are about playing your opponent(s) just as much as they are about playing the cards. The factor of luck also makes them quite accommodating for new players, if they have the patience to learn the rules.

If you are interested in trying a new TCG, give Shadow Era a go, its free to play and you play it online, either installed or through a web browser. I personally love it and its quite fresh so there isn't a huge flood of cards to learn, nor is there new cards which simply outclass and make redundant the older ones.

Unfortunately, the only card game I ever enjoyed was Yu-Gi-Oh, and I still dabble in it occasionally.
I did try really hard to get into the Pokemon TCG, but it just didn't click.

Oh, yes, I still play card games. Well, not as often as I want, as it's harder to find other (good) card players now, but I try. I mean normal card games, I was (very) briefly into Yu-Gi-Oh and I don't have the money to spare on Magic. Still, a normal 52 (54) card deck is enough for hours of fun at a time.
