Carmageddon: Reincarnation is a re-boot of everything that made the original games such a blast to play. The new game will be inspired by the classic environments, cars, drivers and power-ups from the original, but dragged screaming and kicking into the current state of the rendered art. And of course, there will be a bunch of brand new STUFF too, including true rag-doll pedestrians and physics-based power-ups that let you mess with their limbs whilst wiping away the tears - of laughter!

Surprised this hasn't generated more interest on here, perhaps the lack of oldies is to blame?

Oh Carmageddon you dear sweet friend I have a confession to make, I had a crush on yo... wait no this never goes well, I'll just give you money instead.

I was starting to wonder if this was another one of those great ideas lost in time.

Perhaps you're right, makes me feel a bit old :/. Still I wasn't that old when the two good games were released in the mid and late 90's, I remember the first game I played was on my older brother's computer :). Anyway the kickstarter seems to do pretty well, roughly $155,000 so far out of the $400,000 set goal :p.

That's a relief. I thought it had died a death. I might have to donate, some of the rewards are brilliant. I want to be a pedestrian in-game so I can run myself over, but could never afford it. Still, donating $15 (<£10) and getting the game, downloadable from Steam upon release, is well worth it.

I WAS IN THE WAR!

I want this to happen so badly. I remember buying Carmageddon 2 and being livid because the UK version was automatically zombie-modded, then it just straight-up wouldn't work from XP onward.

I would be interested to see the age of people excited for this, though. I'm 24, myself.

What?! The UK version was zombie-modded? Wasn't that just the German version? I don't remember having any particular problems with Carmageddon 2 in XP and Win 7, other than playing over lan and connecting to online games that is :/.

Well put it this way: I certainly didn't intend to buy the zombie version and there was nothing on the box to indicate that's what it was.

But yeah I'm pretty sure they were forced to mod it, I read that while on several forums trying to get it to work because the publishers website informed me they were aware of compatibility issues but had no intention of releasing a patch.

Years later I did get it working, though I won't say how.

Arrr I see :). He he I remember playing HL Source and didn't notice it was some lame German censured version until I encountered some weird robots instead of the marines. I was like '-Da fuck is this shit?!' xD. Still they censor everything but I guess Carmageddon was a bit more violent than the average shooter, so it's perhaps no surprise it got censored in other countries as well. Ah they even mention this in a recent bbc article.
...Bonus points are awarded in the game for driving over pedestrians. This action was amended in the game's initial 1997 UK release following the threat of a sales ban, causing the developer to replace the victims with green-blooded zombies. However, it was later re-released in full, as was a sequel the following year. In subsequent years, other 3D "violent" games such as the genre-defining Grand Theft Auto sequels followed. Despite the Carmageddon's controversy, it was well-received by the gaming community for its innovative gameplay and "action replay" feature...

Seems like this Kickstarter is slowing down, was the site just a flash in the pan for Telltale & InXile?

The original paved the way for the likes of Rockstar and the IP has been locked up in a legal wrangle for far too long. I think Kickstarter will be the only way to get this game funded as no big publisher will touch such an offensive title in this world of boardroom design... I'll be gutted if this fails.

Plus, their Christmas parties are legendary [http://www.carmageddon.com/blog/oh-christ-mas-party].

23 days and "only" 170k to go. I think it's be doable, even if the donations have slowed to a trickle. I personally just threw some money their way, as I'm pretty thrilled at seeing another Carmageddon title in the making.
