I googled this very thing, which brought me here strangely enough.
Anyway, I'll let everyone know why Carmike isn't showing Kick Ass.
They are balking at the fact that a 12 year old girl says "****" in the movie.
I live in the city that is the corporate headquarters of Carmike Cinemas, Columbus GA. There is a dusk protest planned for tonight outside the largest Carmike theater in town.
This seems rather stupid to me and it looks like Carmike seems to pick and choose which movies are too controversial for their theaters. I have been here a large portion of my life and have seen many gory, vulgar and otherwise awesome films on Carmike screens (including Trainspotting, a film that uses the dreaded C word every other syllable).
You can pretty much bet that if a movie gets any sort of controversial buzz around it, Carmike is 75% more likely to ban it. I was seeing posters and trailers for Kick Ass all over the Carmike Cinemas months ahead of its release, but it wasn't until after the sensational, alarmist media started harping about the girl in the movie using sailor talk that Carmike kneejerked into their current high moral ground.
FFS, Carmike lets a local film society have what the call "The Screening Room" at one of their discount theaters and they showed Lars von Trier's Antichrist just a few months ago...if you've seen the movie then you know why the Kick Ass decision sucks and seems awfully hypocritical.
