Oh damn it Hollywood! damn you, why kill off so many talents. I adored her for 30 years since i saw the SW trilogy on VHS when i was 4 and she was one of my first crushes and man oh man she looked good in Jedi in that bikini, yowza.

Shame she died so early, RIP.

Rest in Peace the Queen of the Galaxy.

Also, 2016, chill the fuck out you **** of a year. You are like the Game of Thrones of years. On 31st I dont want you doing a last minute cull. Fucking hell!! 2017 you better not be the shitty sequel to 2016.
2015 and 14 had a large kill count to.
It wasn't just celebrity deaths, the whole year has been nothing but depressing news. The worst election in US history, mass shootings the list goes on.
Anything else that made this year particularly egregious?
Russia and turkey on the verge of war, the shit show in Aleppo, Brexit, terrorist attacks in Europe, the economical shitshow in India, Iran and USA fucking up their relationship even more. trump and putin nearly starting another nuclear arms race.
this year was bad.

[sub][sub][sub][sub] also the fucking gorrila died[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]

RIP Carrie Fisher. At this point I am loathe to say "2016 has claimed its final victim" because at this point it seems like 2016 takes this as a challenge. It is like a particularly robust virus that keeps popping up despite all measures employed to eradicate it.
now you did it. Debbie Reynolds died too

Oh for fuck's... this is just getting silly at this point. I had a jokey book as a kid that had "text message" versions of classic literature, like Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. A lot of them ended with "and then everybody died". That's what 2016 feels like, except it's not funny. I can't even begin to think how Carrie Fisher's daughter must be feeling. Losing your mother and grandmother within 72 hours of each other. Jesus.

2016!!!! I believe that the Simpson's quote of "Damn you 2016, damn you to hell!" is apropos in this situation. Anything else I want to say would just be a string of stronger expletives so I'll leave it at that.

Seriously though, RIP Debbie Reynolds. I am sure Carrie might be sad that you joined her so soon but now mother and daughter are reunited. My condolences really go out to the family losing two such wonderful people so close together.

We should all just agree to go to bed and sleep. No one is allowed to do anything until Jan 1st. Lets just all give up on this year.
At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if we did this only to discover on Jan 1st, some notable figure had died in their sleep Saturday morning.

A lot of people have said that Debbie Reynolds died of a broken heart. I think this may be true. She was 84 and the sudden shock of her daughter dying was probably more than she could take. Nothing a parent fears more than outliving their children.

May they both rest in peace.

Well, damn.

I don't usually feel much for the deaths of strangers, even ones whose work I have enjoyed. About the saddest I got was over Terry Pratchett, and even that only hit when I read his final book which, probably not coincidentally, dealt with the death of a mainstay character.

So I usually keep my mouth shut on these topics. (Because people who show up just to announce their strident indifference are the fucking worst.)

But having the mum and her daughter drop dead that close? Yeah, that's some sad shit.

Wow. If true, that's pretty sad. And confirms that she really did die of a broken heart.
(Though the apparent source is TMZ, so grain of salt on hand.)

I can honestly say, the end of the year was 2016 on steroids. Carrie's death, as well as her mother's were some of the ones that kinda of strike you.

Beside the topic, but still on it, I stumbled upon something yesterday while going through my usual end of the year/beginning of the year array of British pub quiz / panel shows like The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, 8 out of 10 Cats and so on.
And what I stumbled upon was the 2016 Christmas Special of 8 Out of 10 Cats, where, among the guests, was Carrie Fisher. It aired December 21st.

Whatching the whole thing was so surreal because a lot of the jokes (related to pacemakers and not waking up on Christmas morning - because Brittish shows) gave it a weird sense of forshadowing. And I didn't know whether to laugh, or feel guilty about wanting to laugh. And Carrie was such a good sport and really funny in it... Watching it now, and knowing it may have been Carrie's last more or less live show (not entirely sure what the time frame between recording and air time for those things are), it really leaves you a bit sad because she was on her way home when it happened :(

Disney should have required her to lose more weight. If it was too big a request, they should have offered her a huge check. She was still too fat to play Leia. I know it sounds harsh, but it might have saved her.
Or it might have been the final straw. Having changed her body mass in a short time might be doable for younger actors, but the older a person gets, the harder the strain on her body, and the more dangerous it might get.

But that is only conjecture.

Love to their family, though. Losing one family member on this season is hard enough... Losing two, one day apart from each other, its just... damn.
