So last weekend I finished Carrion and I have to say... It's a good game. It's nothing revolutionary, has barely any plot and is not a mechanical marvel that will make your brain sweat, but it's fun and satisfying. I suggest that while you're playing it that you imagine what's happening as if it's an actual horror movie. If you want a game that's not too intensive for some fun then I recommend it.

I tried it yesterday (it's on Gamepass) because I thought it looked neat but I ended up quitting just a half hour into it

That's probably not nearly long enough to be fair but I hated how it controlled and I didn't really care for how it really wasn't horror. All the humans always know where you're at so you can't do anything cool like "Xenomorph is on the ceiling and the human does the slow look up thing before you grab them and eat them" and I just didn't like how it controlled even when you did grab the humans.

It also involved a lot of back and forth, which I just found tedious and boring. Granted, that's kind of a staple of the Metroidvania games so that's more my problem than the games problem but each level I had played all played out the same way; walk in, badly murder whatever humans are around, flail around trying to pick up those cage things that block your path, then run around in the level until I find the mystery switch I need to click and then walk back through the level I already played and had nothing to do in because the switch opened a door way back there but then I realized I went the wrong way because all the places look the exact same and wander around until I find whatever gate that damn switch opened.

A half hour probably isn't nearly long enough to give the game a fair shake but I got bored very quickly playing it

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I thought it was really cool, like its best to think of it as more a puzzle game then a normal metroidvania. But, it is rather short and it needs a damn map.

If the game were longer and more demanding than it is then I'd agree but with it the way it is now I was quite satisfied with a nice bite sized experience. I wouldn't mind seeing a longer game that expanded on what's here but I'm happy with this.

It does certainly set itself up for a longer next game if they wanted to go that route. I'll bet it would be easier to make also since they have the movement tech for a flesh tentacle horror down now.

Its a puzzle game, and not a very good one at that. You have a handful of sizes, each with like 2 abilities. And its usually very obvious when to use which, based on a 'Deposit Biomass' checkpoint in the room before.
And the guards with the shields bring the game to a screeching halt. What's ZP call it? A game of grandmother's footsteps? That. And boy howdy do I not love the flame throwers that are basically an instant kill, but they force you to watch it. And then we have drones and assault mechs out of nowhere.

And there's no map! You get lost often 'cause you don't remember what little side room needed the tentacle mind control power to get to three level ago, which is the way to unlock the gates leading to the door of the 5th level.

Its a cute little demo game, sure, but I would say it feels like a programmer's schoolwork project rather than a finished game.

Eh, I never ran into much difficulty with the encounters. I got most annoyed with the long bombs more than anything else.

I played the Demo a couple months back and enjoyed it. I bought the game this weekend and tried it for a few minutes to get a feel and it felt pretty smooth.

I'll be able to give it a much better try this coming weekend and see how the full package comes across.

Update: I played a fairly big chunk of it over the past day or so and did a longer write up in the "Currently playing" thread. In short, it's generally good, but it's starting to wear thin once you realize the progression for each area is more or less the same thing and this is despite the game being like 5ish hours long. Generally worth a go if you like the concept of being the horror movie monster and murdering all the humans in a vein not unlike ALIEN but it needs either more variety(the areas are mostly the same bunker-like layout) or to be a little bit shorter.

Also, the lack of a map is a bit annoying at times.
