Good Day fellow escapists, if you were born from 1990-1995 then you know what I'm talking about. You are an official child of the 90's because you actually remembered what happened. Like me you grew up watching re-runs of classic Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, 80s reruns of Ninja Turtles etc or waking up at 8 A.M. on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons. Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel (before they sold their soul to Pixar) were the leaders of our childhood memories and we shall never forget the nostalgia each network brings to our minds.

Sadly, watching my younger relatives one day, I caught a glimpse of the line-ups for the acclaimed 'Networks for kids' and what I saw was nothing. Nothing but terribly written cardboard sitcoms and 8 episode-before-cancelled reality shows.

Oh there were 'cartoons' on their line-ups too. They're just God-awful, its not because they're weird b/c we children of the 90s had Ren & Stimpy (THAT was weird, but clever too). Plus our sitcoms were ten times better than the ridiculous teenager pop-culture spouting materialistic nitwits that fester in at Nickelodeon OR the Cartoon Network's cartoons based on bland-personality teenagers in a mall or beach resort.

Puss-dripping boils on a back I say!

Go to Youtube type in any variation of cartoon shows or network names and you'll see nothing but videos made by people asking the same thing, WTF HAPPENED?

Mr. McDUH: "But what about Spongebob?" Spongebob is like Will Smith in 'I Am Legend,' fighting off hordes of pure brainless creatures that has no soul or thought (much like todays cartoons).

I KNOW I'm not the only one who thinks this is true. So I have decided to hold a funeral service for the good cartoons of our childhood.

THREAD: What is a cartoon that you would like to pay your respects and light a candle for in remembrance?

Please Note: This is a funeral so if you want to talk trash to me please send me a private message and I will be sure to get to it as soon as possible. Thank You.

I'll start, Good-bye Rugrats. You were funny, easy to relate to, and you touched the hearts of all children everywhere. Good-bye Tommy, Phil & Lil, Chucky, Angelica, Susie, Dill, and Kimmy. You are all missed.

Goodbye Hey Arnold. You were everything to me, and as I continue to age, I'll miss you deeply. It seems to me, you lived your life, like a candle in the wind. Never fading with the sunset, when the rain set in... AND YOUR FOOTSTEPS WILL ALWAYS FALL HERE, AMONG ENGLAND'S GREENEST HIIIILLLLLSSS...

Your candle's burned out long before your legend ever will...

So long Exo-Squad and Mighty Max. May you forever live on in our hearts.

Farewell, Gargoyles. Your overly-mature story still touches me to this day.

I thought this show was awesome, I didn't get to watch much of it, but I loved it.[footnote][small]Kay, made in 1995... does that count?[/small][/footnote]

The only other cartoon I can really remember is Tom & Jerry.

To the Eds of Ed, Edd, Eddy. You guys were one of the main reasons why I love cartoons. I watch your last movie special and was left very satisfied. You guys will be greatly missed.

Actually all of the old Cartoon Network characters will be greatly missed.

Agreed on all three counts.

Also, let's light a candle for Dungeons and Dragons whose end came too soon. Those kids never did make it home.

Hey now. Just because I wasn't born in the nineties doesn't mean I didn't grow up in them. ;_;

As I mentioned in a similar thread yesterday, Batman TAS, Exo-Squad, Gargoyles, and stuff like Ren&Stimpy and Duckman will always have a place in my heart.

I'm six years above your target-demographic but that's still close enough to relate to your issue, I think.

So here goes: Farewell Cow and Chicken. I never had many oppurtunities to watch Cartoon Network, but whenever I watched it, I would watch you. And I adored you. You gave the world so much, and asked nothing in return.

It seems strange to think that if I turn on the TV now, you won't be there anymore.
I can only hope that you will always be remembered as the beautiful entertainment that you once were, and that no-one will ever try to "revive" you.

Cow, Chicken, The Red Guy, may you rest in peace, well-deserved and undisturbed, until the end of time.

To the Warner siblings of Animaniacs. May your clever script and hilarious insanity be a beacon in the darkness of modern cartoons. Give us light, Warners, give us light.
