I don't understand how anybody liked Catdog. I also don't understand how people liked Jimmy Neutron and what really baffles my mind is how Jimmy's friend Sheen got his own freaking show! Seriously though: Catdog is probably the one that really, really confuses me. I don't get how anybody could like a show so mean spirited and downright bleak.
Jimmy Neutron was just terrible. Good movie, but the show destroyed the characters. There's a huge gap between the characters' writing in the movie and in the cartoon, to the point where it seems like the writers for the cartoon could only focus on one aspect of each character, and so they took those to their logical extremes. Jimmy goes from a genius who's lacking somewhat in social skills and common sense to an insanely smart kid with infinite access to any materials he wants and who completely lacks any sort of common sense or ability to predict the outcome of using his terrible inventions. Carl and Sheen turn into caricatures of themselves. Jimmy's dad loses his father-figure-ness and just turns full-on idiot.

Another I'd say is overrated is Spongebob, As someone else pointed out, I don't see much talk of it anymore but it's still huge so... yeah. It used to be great, just so funny, littered with both slapstick and deeper humor for adults. And it had some interesting values hidden underneath, too. That the characters are all adults but still act like kids, that Spongebob himself sees a crap job like working at a fast food place as some really cool high-level thing.. they're interesting perspectives, if nothing else. But man, has the show been absolutely abysmal the last 5 years or so. The movie was about the last good thing to come out of the IP. I knew it couldn't last, and to their credit, they had a good run. But man, does it ever need to STOP.

Young Justice. I hate season long story lines and this is the worse.
I honestly hate 1 shot 22 minute stories, but the problem with young justice and now green lantern is this: FUCKING HIATUSES, seriously, CN and the show runners need to get their shit together, so tired of 6 episodes and 4 monthes off. Very unprofessional in my opinion.

If you refer to my previous post, I do say that it did a lot to bring us out of the 80's, and, well, all of it was steps in the right direction, but I just think that there were several episodes that I found very dull and uninteresting, and nearly everyone that I hear about it from heralds it as practically flawless. You say that "no one said it wasn't flawless", but almost everything that I have seen, personally, suggests otherwise.

I admit, I rarely watched the show when I was little. It was playing on a channel I didn't pay attention to in my youth, and it's heyday was at a point when I was far too young to appreciate it. I really didn't get into superhero animation until the Justice League series. When I started really getting into animation, that's when I took a serious look at this elated Batman: The Animated Series I had heard so much about, and I felt it had a number of terrific episodes, but also an equal share of immediately forgettable episodes, too.

So, yes, I find Batman: TAS to be, on the whole, a bit overrated. Good, yes, but overrated. It deserves praise for taking good steps to progress the quality of animation, to be sure, but I don't thinks its anywhere near the masterpiece that I've heard it was.

Invader Zim. I fail to see how anyone could ever have found it amusing. It wasn't funny when it was on TV. It only ran for 2 seasons, separated by 5 years. The animation was good, but that was about it. The only purpose it serves is merchandised t-shirts that help you identify gamer girls at parties.

Ouch, that one hurt me a little bit. :( *BUT LIKE I SAID, TO EACH HIS OWN*
It's the musical bits, repetitive humor & carbon copy characters that I can't stand. But ratings show that I'm in the minority. There are some hilarious bits in FG & AD though.
THE MUSICAL BITS ARE THE BEST!!!!

Sorry.... I actually haven't watched it in a long time. It just didn't seem to be very funny, maybe it's improved to it's old hilarious standards though.

OT: Well the really obvious one for me is MLP but I don't know if that counts so.... The Simpsons. Maybe not the older seasons but I haven't laughed at a single episode in a long time.

Even as a fan of Friendship is Magic, it IS excessively overhyped by the fanbase. It's an enjoyable, funny and colorful show, but it's not... Revolutionary outside of maybe the fluidity of animation and the writing not being bored to tears quality. It's definitely one to WATCH though.

As for other shows, let's see...

Johnny Test. I have been amazed that there are ACTUALLY people out there who ENJOY this show. It's the bottom of the barrel quality cartoon, with flash animation used as a shortcut, incredibly unfunny jokes, overused reactions and sound effects and just, AUGH.

I am enraged that there are actually people who consider putting that flaming piece of shit show with other currently GOOD cartoons. And the worst part of it all? THE SHOW HAD POTENTIAL TO BE FUNNY. I've seen a good couple episodes here and there and there ARE actually some genuinely funny episodes. The one involving the winter machine, the portable black hole and a few others I can't name, all actually kind of funny.

The rest is a trial of sitting through shitty animation, whipcracks reaching into the triple digits in certain episodes (I SWEAR TO GOD, ONE TIME I COUNTED IT AND THEY USED THAT FUCKING WHIPCRACK SOUND EFFECTS OVER 100 TIMES) and incredibly stupid jokes. Johnny Test is a turd polished up by Cartoon Network as one of their most popular shows.

tl;dr A show that has decided not to be funny for the sake of catering to an audience that is too stupid to realize what it is watching is just random and fast paced rather than actually entertaining is one that does not deserve to keep being made.

Friendship Is Magic for the typical heralding of it as "that show for girls/children that guys/adults watch".
There has actually been quite a bit of those. "It teaches valuable lessons". You mean, just like countless other serials that contain a generalized/optimistic message? I can't shake the feeling that a lot of people claim to like the show just to appear ironic and that it's pretty damn popular about the internet partially for that reason alone.

Adventure Time, as it feels much like Spongebob albeit with focus on the modern young audience.
Which is to say that a lot of what transpires seems random and without any real purpose other than to elicit a chuckle.
There may be some interesting things/lore hidden under the sugar-infused and childlike facade, but it's oft ignored to make way for some more unconnected escapades that may or may not try to add to characters. I wonder if it were made for a more mature audience as it's target if there would be deeper content for the creators to work with...but then I saw The Bravest Warriors and dismissed that possibility.

I rather enjoy watching the above two, but I can definitely recognize them as over-rated and not what people praise them to be. I'd go on a hate fueled rant about Family Guy/Cleveland Show/American Dad and Robot Chicken, but I don't feel like writing a small novel. I will, however, recommend that Spongebob, South Park and the Simpsons recognize that their prime time is pretty much up and it would be nice to see them conclude on a high note rather than continue on like a horse with horrendously broken legs.

Going with freakazoid on this. Watched a few episodes when Moviebob talked about it, and I just found it dull as hell and the jokes crude and all. . . ninetiesey.

Is it just me or are some people using overrated as 'I didn't like the show but yet others do' instead of 'I think the show is of a lower quality then people claim it to be' I mena plenty of people love 'the room' but I am sure no one thinks its good so even if you don't like it and think its bad you can't call it overrated as people will agree its bad.
I agree with this post... well most people aren't explaining overrated as much as why they disliked something.

For stuff like Adventure Time, the best thing I hear people say is that it is stupid, funny and random. That's not exactly setting the bar high. I like it, I get the occasional chuckle, but I have no idea when it's on and wouldn't really care to find out.

Futurama being overrated I might give a yes to. I love it, I know others who love it, but it receives a lot of hype. "Godlike" was one description, so definitely overrated. As for it being a copy of the Simpsons in space, I'd really have to doubt if that person had even watched an episode at all. I mean the character design and some humor is the same, but the group dynamics and relationships between the characters are vastly different. Also quite a lot of the humor is more adult oriented, where as the simpsons is usually geared towards children (and nostalgic references).

Catdog? I've never heard anyone say anything nice about it, so how could it be overrated? lol.

Neo Genesis Evangelion - Sooo much this. I've been told to re-watch it like a million times because I didn't like it. Apparently liking Tsundere style characters is a large part of it...? But yeah... no... It's not as good as people thing.

Bleach/Naruto - both seem promising, receive a lot of praise but are spoiled by large amounts of filler. I read the manga for both and things are just so much more concise. Bleach suffers from pacing issues. Naruto, while I like character development I know that not everyone does.

Uhhh... Yeah Seth Mcfarlane, some people love it to death, but I don't think it lives up to their praise. I'd also like to mention "Ted" and how much praise it got when it was just such a boring and formulaic movie, even just outright copying Family Guy jokes.

I watch a lot of anime, so I'd like to give special mentions to...
Freezing - Called groundbreaking, but was essentially a generic ecchi superpower anime.

One Piece - Loved by many, I just didn't get it. I like the main character but was just meh about each ep I watched.

Highschool of the Dead - Called Amazing, but was essentially ecchi focused. The zombie invasion was an interesting idea for an anime at the time, but the execution was so much about the ecchi that it really spoilt the whole thing.

Maburaho - Roomate loved it, I wouldn't let him anywhere near my future children.

Adventure Time. Obviously to each their own, and the show doesnt bother me or anything, but I cannot see why people love it as much as they do. Aside from the nostalgic animation style, I don't see it.
The humor just seems random and spazzy - no real depth. The plots are just as sporadic, usually. A fine show, I suppose. But not great.

Don't know if I like the term "overrated" though. It's just a minority opinion.
I've always thought Adventure Time was about a blossoming friendship set against a strange post-apocalyptic world, more focused on character interactions and the way they overcome craziness than the craziness itself. I put it mentally next to The Simpsons and Futurama, not Ren & Stimpy or... I dunno, Regular Show? Its spazziness - the cartoony nature of it - is in service of very interesting character plots.

I could be digging too deep though. It might not actually be the show's intention, though it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

Frankly I'm going to cut out the middleman and just say ANY cartoon that suddenly explodes into popularity. Nothing, no matter HOW creative or original, stays fresh after it's been spammed at you by a horde of literally rabid fantards running the jokes into the ground and gushing breathlessly about how kickass it is and bullying anyone who criticizes it in the slightest.

Some of these bear repeating - My Little Pony. Skyrim and Portal put together shrivels in comparison to the staggering overrated-ness of something that's demonstrably targetted at pre-teen girls, and don't get me started on the cult-like behavior of the bronies. They're by definition furries, yet they ceaselessly deny it until they're blue in the face, then run around and deface other properties with ponies (like Pinkie Pie Shepard or whatever).

SpongeBob is a big fucking contender. I'm doubly offended because whoever is in charge of the Norwegian dubbing decided to ditch the original actor (I can't remember his name but he's kinda like Robin Atkin Downes - good with "psychotic" characters) in favor for the guy who played Aladdin (typecast in action roles). It's a rape to the ears to listen to.

The Simpsons/South Park/Family Guy - The unholy trinity of "comedy" that have all overstayed their welcome. I swear their current staff of writers are just trying to see what they can get away with now. Gone is the genuine comedy, "offensive humor" is apparently the trend now. Fuck these shows, I sincerely wish they were cancelled a decade ago.

Yeah, I hate to be that person again but MLP:FIM. I mean, I've watched the show. It's alright, I'll admit. But it's not THAT great. How could it have such a big fanbase AND how could guys like it so much? I'm not being sexist but it's just a mystery to me.

Also, Chowder. I had a lot of friends who loved the show and I just didn't get why. It felt like a Spongebob ripoff.

And I guess Spongebob too. I like Spongebob but I see it everywhere nowadays. The show is fun but there's only so much he can do in the show. His popularity is forcing the producers to come up with stupid episodes more often than necessary.

And...South Park and Family Guy. I dunno, they're both pretty childish and...gross? And I'm not saying I want to watch a show about bureaucrats drinking red wine all day and talking about taxes. But half of the time, the show spends its time making ass and shit jokes in order to hide its lack of a better plot. Hey, at least The Simpsons has managed to not sink to that level. So I don't get why everyone is so into those shows!
I guess it's more of a personal opinion.

And...not to play Devil's Advocate but Adventure Time is horribly overrated but it's still a good show. It's dumb and silly fun, yes, but there's a plot in there and that's something that most cartoons seem to forget about after a while. There are small hints here and there about something bigger: the Mushroom war, Marceline and Ice King, Peebles' age, Finn being the last human, etc. but that's just me.

Let me go ahead and drop my vote in for MLP:FiM.

Yes I love the show.

Yes it's the only show I have fanfics backed up for and write stories for. But IT isn't that good. The world they live in and the characters are interesting.

my brother loves MLP and tries to make me watch all episodes, i have watched a few episodes and a few funny moments, but i just cant invest in a story that's meant for young girls, i don't need the life lessons it teaches. the story is not relevant to me.

Having only seen a handful of episodes, my personal vote goes to Adventure Time, with the first runner up of DragonBall Z. I don't like most of the former, with the exception being some snazzy characters, and I honestly don't understand the appeal of the latter.

Any anime that most people recommend to me is a sour point for me. Case in point: Sword Art Online. I hate Sword Art Online. Now Kirito, stop being inconsistent. Asuna, stop being cliched. The list goes on...

South Park. It has the occasional entertaining episode, but it?s much less intelligent than the creators think it is. I mean, it?s tolerable, and I?ll watch it if there?s nothing else to, but?it?s not as good as The Simpsons, or even Family Guy. I mean, I ?get it?, but there?s not all that much humour to be found in the increasingly ridiculous storylines.

Naruto. All I can remember from the couple of manga volumes my friend lent to me was an annoying smart-ass protagonist, an emo sidekick-of-sorts, a stereotypical tsundere teenage girl with a stupid crush on said emo, and about a million flashbacks.
