Cartoons these Days suck!

I'm currently 21 and there always seems to be a general consesus among people my age and older that today's cartoons are outclassed by everything that was around (let's say) 10 years ago. And it's simply not true. The shows on today are some of the most hilarious animations I've ever seen. But the people who often say the phrase "Cartoons these days suck" usually don't watch cartoons in general. Hell with the increase in digital products I'm surprised if they even watch T.v. My exasperation occurs when I start naming shows they probably would have liked. Usually I recommend some great shows and friends say "yeah that does sound good." I then respond "Well to bad [insert station here] cancelled it." Often, I find people were so busy hating the shows that they considered bad that they completely missed all the shows they would've liked. So at this moment in time I would like to pour a virtual cup for some great cartoons that have been lost over time. Feel free to add some in that I've missed.* (Keep it in the last 4-5 years.)

*Insert obligatory endorsement of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic here*

God I love Dan Vs.. Such an underrated show. I was so bummed when the Hub canceled it. I think it was a case of airing on the wrong network. The Hub didn't know what to make of the show's adult undertones, so they quietly stuck it on one of the worst possible time slots (Saturday afternoons) and left it to wither and die. It probably would have flourished on a different outlet like Nickelodeon or Adult Swim. At least Dan lives on in the form of Dan Vs./FiM crossovers:

Wander Over Yonder is a hoot as well. It's colorful, fast paced and absolutely hilarious. Plus, it has Lord Hater, one of the best cartoon villains in history:
HATE'S GREAT, BEST VILLAIN!

Eh. I stoped watching cartoons a long time ago. So i don't know if they suck or not. However i would like some more dark and less cartoony cartoons, soley for adults. Less family guy and harvey birdman and more spawn ( with better writting). Something that tackles a lot more mature and realistic and harsh themes .While i'm sure they do exist, going out of my way to find them are too much of a hassle.

Avengers Assemble keeps me relatively entertained. I'm partial to Ultimate Spider-Man, but didn't care for the high-school setting. Season 3 looks better, since they aged Spider-Man to college level. Young justice is also great, too bad it was cancelled.

I can safely tell you that any former generations will tell you that the current's pop culture is boring. In their turn, the current generation will get older and get fond of their childhood memories and think that newer cartoons are bad.

Cycle of pop-culture life.

I wouldn't call the current generation bad. Though there are certainly some real stinkers(Johnny Test). Though I do feel that in some ways current cartoons are going in a different direction than the ones I grew up with.

Then again I watched everything from Dexter's Laboratory, to some real obscure pieces now like Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys, or Mummies Alive.

Has somepony mentioned Gravity Falls yet?

Why yes, somepony has. I enjoy that show greatly, and I'm liking the direction season 2 is taking. Much darker, but still keeping the light humor and goofiness that makes the show great.

I don't think cartoons these days suck, but for a while it did seem like most of the cartoons on T.V. were lacking when compared with the ones I grew up with (like Doug, Hey Arnold, Rugrats and such). However, it looks like that is changing now.

Of course, it could also be that I'm just bias toward my own childhood memories. ;-)

We're all biased by our childhood cartoon memory. Even if they don't hold up for kids today like they did for us (things change) it doesn't mean our stuff is inferior. We're just a different age with different perspectives. Maybe they suck, maybe they don't but we're no longer the targets for those shows and the kids today see and grow up in a different world than we did. I'm 34 with a 15 year old, and I've had a lot of time to "see" a different perspective from my daughter's point of view (when I can get her to talk about it... lol cagey kid). I may never enjoy today's cartoons but then I've got all my memories of great things and I can still enjoy most of the things I loved as a kid (and avoid things like Gargoyles Season 3 like the plague).

Glad to see gravity falls being mentioned.

Rik and Morty anyone?

That show is wonderful once you get used to the delivery.
