Both deserving games, but portal a game that didn't give me much to complain about or Skyrim a game that I probably had more fun with but large segments felt unsatisfactory. Hmmmmm

Yeah, that was my issue as well. I mean, Portal's a bundle of fun packed into one tight package, but I have something like 260 hours into Skyrim, so...hrm.

I don't think I hate Skyrim as much as I think I do but it's still got to be Portal all the way. Minecraft should have been in the final and SotC deserved to do better. Too much Bethesda and Bioware on the list, and poorly seeded.

But I guess it's just a bit of fun. A good opportunity to moan and be elitist and tell everyone else that they're wrong and bad for having slightly different opinions. The stuff forums are made of.

Portal was amazing. Granted. Portal 2 was amazing too (although it delved too deeply into the dark underbelly of retcons). Still, I think everyone remembers it as gleaming gamer gold that can stand the test of time, and it really hasn't. It was a fun romp the first time, but it has no replay value, which is something I consider very important, and it was bloody short. No, short would be fine, Heavy Rain was too, but Portal was practically a gaming milisecond.

No matter how fantastic the experience, if it doesn't last x amount of hours, I don't even remember it. I know a lot of people are the same. What is it about Portal that justifies that? Funny jokes? I can listen to Louis C.K. or Gabriel Iglesias or George Carlin if I want funny jokes.

Valve didn't consider it that important when they released it either, just a grab bag of puzzles with a technology they were testing that they upgraded into a mini-game. Ohh! That's IT! That's what Portal was. A MINI-GAME. I just figured that out! No, Fable 2 is a game... but it wouldn't be fair if the Chickn' Kickin' mini-game got nominated for game of the year, so why is it OK for Portal? Because it's better? Because it's Valve?

While I think there was nothing wrong with Portal in it's design, the only real problem I had was it's linearity. There was really only one (Sometimes two or three) ways to finish a puzzle, and the game was only three or so hours long. And as fun as it was, playing the same thing over and over again gets boring.

I got Skyrim on the PS3, so it was nearly half a year before I was able to play it properly. But I've clocked over two hundred hours on the game, and I'm still amazed at some of the things I find, and how deep and sometimes even emotionally involving the side-quests can be (Hell, I found a light house, and ended up avenging a dead family who were killed by Chorus and Falmer...fucking Falmer).

In the end, I have to vote for SKyrim simply because, while Portal was much cheaper, Skyrim surpassed it's price even if you were to put a dollar an hour on the game, and there is just so much more to do, and ways to play the game.

Skyrim vs FIFA? C'mon, guys. I hope this is a randomly-chosen bracket, or that will be the worst curb stomp you've ever set up in one of your tournaments.
Wouldn't the world have been a slighlty more beautiful place if FIFA had beat Skyrim; and met COD in the final?

how the hell did skyrim beat shadow of the colossus? After playing both twice i can say without doubt that Shadow of the colossus is a much better experience. I think people need to get off of the Bethesda train, skyrim is the only great game that they have ever made. Oblivion wasnt all that spectacular and fallout was decent but by no means incredible.

From what ive seen from bethesda they put out huge game worlds with very similar set pieces that have major glitches every couple hundred feet.
