Me and Sonic have a strange relationship. He continues to dissappoint me multiple times, and yet I forgive him since I know he has potential and can do better. The hedgehog has high potential believe me, I just find it ironic that the very company that owns him dont see it. Sadly I must report on another game which had potential, but was never utilized...again. By the wat, this review will be a bit different from my last one.
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is the sequel to last year's Sonic Riders(obviously)in which both are racing games. The twist in these games are that everyone races using with hoverboards of some sort instead of the usual wheels. Another thing is...you know what? Lemme just tell you where the game fails and delivers.
The bad: Game is terribly unbalanced(once you are in the back you are screwed basically unless you are an expert gamer like me). The extra Boards to purchase cost a bit too much. You cant change the A.I. at all, so they remain on their default setting, brutal but stupid. The ability to attack your opponents have been reduced to a random item you never know when you are going to get it. Not to mention turning can be troublesome(also not to mention controlling with the Wiimote is a hassle sometimes too).
Now for where the game succeeds. The stage design(although a bit linear at times) is spectacular. There are many ways to get throught the levels even I havent discovered them. The graphics, though not pushing the system to the limit, is sharp and does not slowdown at all during gameplay. The new gimmick this time around is the ability to manipulate gravity in which you can stop in midair, turn to where you wanna go, then boost forward. This ability can be used to drift, fly through the air, find shortcuts or even ride on the walls. The game also has quite possibly the most original way to start a race. In every other racing game,
Everyone stays at the starting until the timer says GO!. Sonic is too cool for that. In the starting area of every race you can actually move around for about 4 seconds before the race begins. Here you can back up and then get a running start toward the finish line, which is covered with a lightning fence. When the race actually begins the lightning will go down and if you were already running toward it, you will get a major boost. In other words the closer you were while running to the line as it went down the faster you go. Of course this can backfire if you actually touch the lightning and get stuck in it, causeing a majorly slow start for you. Its risky and it takes a bit of skill, but it is worth it. And most importantly, this game is FAST. The sense of speed is great, though it may be a bit too much for yall.
All in all, its a overly decent game. Its not worth its default price, but you will definetly get your five bucks worth. Now that I think about it, this game wasnt so bad.
Recommendation: RENT IT
