They aren't even historically accurate come to think of it. October used to be a time of Pagan celebrations of the end of the summer. All Saint's Day (November 1) was actually created to combat the Pagan holidays by the Catholic Church. All Halloween is is the day before. It's technically a Catholic holiday.

So essentially these Christians are protesting a holiday they created...and the most depressing part is this doesn't surprise me.
yea, the catholic church in the early centuries made all pagan holidays catholic holidays so they could appeal to more people and get more followers. That's why Christmas is held in winter rather than the season Jesus was believed to be born in, there was a pagan holiday in december that they used
Not all but three of the most important ones (Christmas, Halloween, and Easter). The Christian invaders had a hard time persuading the indiginous populations to give up their old religions, so it kind of happened that the two merged to some degree, then an oppressive Christian heirarchy formed with the blessing of the state, and that buried most of the old Paganism (although it did float around).

Paganism has re-emerged though (I am one).

Ohh and just a heads up Nurb - next time you start a thread like this you might want to make it clear in the op this isn't about religion in general but certain extremists. Most people will understand this without you needing to point it out, but we have a small number of extremely aggressive and fanatical atheists here who will try to turn this into a edict that all Christians must convert or die.
what 'christian invaders' are you talking about? historicly, the christians were part of the eastern roman empire before it collapsed and jerusalem overtaken by muslims later on, they were the invaders which reached and seiged the Byzantine's Constantinople, which prompted the crusades and re-invading the holy lands. Of course before christianity existed it belonged to the jews under the romans.

at the time when all of these holidays were overtaken by the catholic church, rome was already established with an official religion and the northern barbarian tribes all adopted it during the early dark ages to gain support for themselves, and there was no invasion there either, just oppression of the minorities within the countries and tribes that adopted it. I'm not fond of catholics, but be angry at them for the right things
I am from the UK, so I think of the earliest Christians in terms of invading. I should qualify that as not saying that "invasion" here means they came to spread Christianity, merely that Europe was invaded by Rome, and they brought Christianity with them. I am shakey on exactly how the spread went, all I really know is that a lot of our traditions and beliefs were being swallowed up/outlawed by the time the monarchies started getting established and the European nations as a whole more organised.

Fun fact #836: The whole story of J.C being born in an inn was actually plagerised from a Pagan story. I'd dare say not one story in all of the Bible was an original work.

I'm surprised these overzealous bible-thumpers aren't doing witch hunts still..

And this is why we can't have sarcasm on the internet anymore.

Because if I joked about this, someone might take me seriously. :|
But that makes the sarcasm even funnier! I love flexing my sarcastic muscles on the Interblag, it's win-win. If the person who reads it gets it, then they will probably laugh and thus you will have made their day (or hour, or minute, whatever). If, however, they do not get it, their angered response will be loud and clear and hilarious.

I feel sorry for him. The world this guy lives in must be a terrible place with death and destruction awaiting him around every corner.

It gave me a giggle though. I thought we'd moved past petty superstition where demons and the devil are to blame for all of the worlds ills.

EDIT: Holy shit! I saw at the end "email in your prayer requests". Anything I want? I might email requesting a prayer for a next gen Powerstone release on the 360.
