My cd drive is functioning but not recognizing any disks put into it, I tried reinstalling the hardware but alas it hasn't solved the problem. Anyone know anything that might trigger it into working again? Cheers.

Have you checked the cables? it will still spin and do everything it normaly does but the signal itself may be cut off from your motherboard.
have you tried blowing/sucking out the dust of your drive?
does the drive work when your computer starts up ( put a bootable cd in it ). if so, it's probaly a software problem, if not then it's probably broken.
