OK here's my problem:

I have two copies of Command & Conquer 3 so me and my buddy can lan it up. Problem is, the book of one is missing. I mean, who puts these things on the damn Book anyways!?

I already have the game on my main pc, which i installed a long time ago, so i have no idea which cd key is on it.

any suggestions?

Write down your cd key next time? I know that seems a little obvious, but it works.

If it's LAN play, surely you don't need the actual key that came with the game?

...This suggestion's going to get me banned, isn't it? Uh, DON'T READ THIS POST UNLESS YOU BOUGHT THE GAME. TWICE.

The CD key that was printed on My copy of RCT3's case was incorrect so the package was shipped with a replacement. naturally, I lost the slip of paper with the correct key.

As long as that's the version that's installed on the computer, you can still find out the CD key!

Just go into Run, and type in "regedit". Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then software, and then find C&C3 in there. The CD key should be located in one of the registry entries.

you install whatever copy you want on the other PC. You can LAN it up with the same CD-key, you just can't play online both at the same time.

dont worry, spore wont have any cd-key, but it will require you to check in every five seconds, send in a copy of your drivers license, or a valid photo id, to be held in a data bank on ea's totally uncrackable servers, and send in a copy of your dignity to be throughly beaten and pissed on.

you can find out via regedit.

just look for the C&C entry, and one of the entries should be the CD key.

It'll be the one that looks like a CD key.

Hmm... I like the whole "DVD-case" idea. I might do that. Thanks, Khell.

I thought that Spore's team axed that idea once they realized it was dumb. They were planning on it, yea, but Kotaku ran an article that said they decided against it. Unless I'm mistaken. Now to look it up!

Edit: [a href="http://kotaku.com/5008454/spore-to-use-online-authentication"]Here[/a] is the article. So they'll still check your stuff when you download, but no longer with the 10-day EA thing.

the problem i have is, what happens in ten years, when the servers are down, or what happens if ea goes bankrupt, esentaly i wont be able to reinstall, or install spore on another pc.

its like you never really own it, but you can ask to use it.

Eh, CD keys are not going to last long. Eventually, Steam will take over everything.
Which'll become a major ***** if hackers bust through Steam... we can trust Valve. Right? Right?!
