Game music appreciation thread, eh?

Okay, let's do this:

Kelly Bailey and Mike Morasky are still among my most admired game music composer in the industry, and the work Mike did on Portal 2 was nothing short of brilliance. (linking to single songs doesn't really do the P2 soundtrack justice, since it was an adaptive/procedural score)

This soundtrack fits the game like a glove, setting the tone beautifully, and is perfect to explore aimlessly to.

I just love this soundtrack. I've lost hours playing this little game, simply getting lost in thought listening to the music.

Paul Ruskay could teach a master class on proper ambient scoring.

Say what you will about this series, but it had some great music. Dark, atmospheric, and at times heart pounding, it set the tone of the series wonderfully. Trent Reznor did an amazing job on the original score, and Sonic Mayhem churned out some good tracks for the following games.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for mech combat, and this series has had some truly great music that just exudes that image.

To me, these tracks are as memorable and iconic to my childhood and formative years as the Mario and Zelda themes were.

I could go on, but I've linked WAY too many youtube videos. For the sake of browser stability, I'll leave it at these for this post.

Always love these threads.

Although I haven't played the game personally, I do enjoy the soundtrack, it also introduced me to one of my favorite artists, Celldweller

the first video game I played and a great, dark ambient soundtrack by Trent Reznor

Creepy ambient tracks and the occasional licensed tracks helped make Bloodlines a memorable classic in my mind.

Other than that...
Yep... Time to kick some ass, alright...
Now, if were also discussing covers as well, then...

Uh... Basically anything that comes from The Adventures of Duane and Brando:
They are the main contributing factor to whenever I see someone play any of the games they've done a cover of, I start singing along to their lyrical rendition of said song...

And, as for Miracle of Sound, since I can't choose just one song from him... So, I'll just go with the first one I heard from him:
It was forward to me by my cousin a long time ago... and, overall, it never gets old listing to either D&B or MoS on one of my Ipods...
Yep... I think I just double-ninja'd myself...

Other than that, I almost forgot about this little ninja on myself as well:

First off, a collection of similar melodies spanded across multiple games of the same series:
And now for some full OSTs:
Yep... I think I covered my favorites that haven't already been covered in some way, shape or form...
Yeah... I think that should cover my overall video game music celebration from my 21st century perspective...

Ugh man, a good score or soundtrack in a game is the fastest way to hit me in the feels.

This song always gets me. It's just so haunting and sad and it fits Elizabeth perfectly by the end of Bioshock Infinite.

This one always creeped me out when I was a kid. Actually it still kind of does if I'm honest. The entire soundtrack of Secret of Mana is amazing.

FFIX is my favorite Final Fantasy of all time and a huge part of the reason is the score. It's all just so beautiful and emotional. I love the harpsichord sound in this.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Lets go with some more obscure older game music shall we.

My favourite soundtrack would have to be Total Annihilation's OST. The game had an adaptive playlist, so while there wasn't much action going on, the game would play the more sedate tracks, like this:

But when an attack was made, the music changed tracks like these:

and my personal favourite:

I post Metroid, Zelda, Classic Sonic, and Megaman X a lot in these kinds of threads so how about something slightly different:
I love GoW's bombastic orchestras and choruses
Mostly tracks in Doom 2 are brooding or very industrial, but occasionally, they spice it up.
Pretty much every song in this gaem makes you wanna dance. Coincidence?
Probably the most relaxing piece I've ever heard in a game.

I adore the Umineko No Naku Koro Ni soundtrack, especially when you get to Episode 5 through 8 in Chiru. The majority of it are orchestral pieces.

This is used sparingly as mostly victory music, first used only in Episode 3 I think.

As much as I hate Erika, her music is damn good. The *****.

The quake 3 soundtrack was industrial metal, so it often get's sandwhiched by fans of the doom 1-3/quake 2 osts (standard metal) and the electronic soundtracks of unreal tournament. It's my personal favorite however, as it itches parts of my body other osts can't.

I would also view the homeworld ost as the best of a video game. It is short, it uses songs that aren't original, so it's not a staple for how to make a quality soundtrack, but I feel it ends up fitting the game like a sock.

Now just for some good tracks:

In any thread about videogame music, I gotta plug Killer Instinct. As a series, its soundtrack has been consistently good and just some of the best fight game music around :D

I remember what it was like to walk into the arcade at the old bowling alley and hear that freaking theme play. Oh, hell, yes.

Favorite OSTs come from a lot of game series that I've enjoyed playing for a long time. Stuff like Castlevania and Mega Man and such. Shin Megami Tensei stuff is also a given. I don't know if I could pick a favorite soundtrack from any game outright, but I guess I could post a few tunes I do generally like quite a bit.

I do have tons of stuff I would love to link if it wasn't going to make my posts horribly and excruciatingly long. :c

I like a lot of game music, but these days a lot of AAA game music, as lovely as it sounds, is this generic, epic orchestral stuff that doesn't in anyway sound distinctive. Give me something idiosyncratic anytime:

Well there's The Crash Twinsanity and Tag Team Racing soundtracks.

There's also the soundtracks for Rayman Origins and Legends, which I would post, but I'm afraid that my computer will disconnect again before I even search for the videos.

Jeremy Soule, the composer for the TES series, has made some truly wonderful themes outside of those games. My personal favourite is the Elfsong Tavern theme from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.

For the overall best score, I would pick Max Payne 2. There is something with the moody cello that just fits perfectly.
