Sorry, there was a war? I was just punching people and getting drunk.
You must have blacked out.

I mean, what you managed to do with the ferret and the chainsaws was a work of art. A shame you missed it.
All in a day's work for Baron Von Madness, I guess. Another round, everybody?

I don't even bother with this site anymore because I'm afraid someone will take something I say out of context or just decide they don't like my opinion and I'll get another strike on my account.

It's not worth the hassle for me.

Wow I didn't even think it had been this long but 2009 is when I joined... years go by too fast for my liking.

I don't know. I stopped being a regular when it turned into a SJ battleground.

It was particularly bad on these forums - probably due to the types of articles this site traffic in.

I felt I was being manipulated by flamebait article after flamebait article, creating explosive thread after explosive thread - like I was being taken for a ride so they can pad their page views.

Won't be surprised that many new users were here just to partake in the SJ flame war. (Those that weren't, took one look at the site and fled. LOL)

Now that the whole thing has died down, despite the best efforts of its "professionals", the "new users" just left.

Stick with me, newbie. I'll red pill you yet. And then, you will join us as an oldie.

I'm not sure, but apparently I did this absolutely wonderful stunt with ferrets and a chainsaw...or was it just one ferret and seven chainsaws? Well, no matter. It still happened. And if you don't believe me, you can ask my cohort, Whifflestomp Jackson, who...is passed out upside-down in a keg right now.

Incidentally, were you aware that a buttload was a measurement for wine barrels?

Yay! I'll practice the ceremonial dance!

I was not, but I did know that a metric fuckton was a measurement for mayonnaise volume.
Really? Tell me, is that a different measurement from a regular fuckton? If so, what was it used upon?

Yes, only America still uses the regular fuckton (you know how they are about the metric system). And...mayonnaise? <_<
It's because of football. They tried the metric system there and it sucked, so they changed it back and never gave it another thought.

Ugh. I'm actually in the US, and it drives me nuts. But I work in a field that uses metric so I'm probably biased.
Guessing that's not a football field you're in. Priorities and all.

On other forums around the internet, it's not uncommon to see people with join dates more than a decade old. There's one particular forum I also frequent where almost all of the regulars have join dates 2003-2005.

Why does The Escapist have such a (comparatively) high turnover of users? Is it because people get bored of it quickly? Is it the moderation? Perhaps it's because people tend to join this site when they're fairly young IRL, and grow out of this place after a few years.
I'm not really sure the reason...
The site's forums haven't been around for all that long. They got started some time in 2006, IIRC, which was as far back as threads with comments in will currently load for me. Earliest join date I saw was 2004, I think, belonging to someone who helped put the site together. A lot of people joined back then and simply don't post in the forums, ergo they aren't seen as much nowadays. The mute white faces are legion.

Yes, let's never forget Mythrandia. Greatest wizard of an age, the hero of Asheron's Call, who visited our humble forums to share page upon page of arcane wisdom.
