Chalkboards are way more common at my school. Only one or two classrooms I've seen use whiteboards and a few rooms use smart-boards.

my school uses those fancy new "smart boards" like the ones they used on mythbusters, but yes, we do have a few chalkboards from time to time.
Sorry, what is a "smartboard" again?

If you tell me it's some kind of tactile device I may have to go set an Apple store on fire.

they are basically touch screen chalk boards that use special pens. they are a little neat, especially saying you can go on the internet, but they are basically a giant touch screen.

The only times I've seen a chalkboard in a school/college is when I was sitting an exam and they wrote the duration of the exam on it, other than that they just had interactive white boards. SmartBoards I think they're called

To be fair, we did have a projector that teachers could hook up to their laptops back in uni, but this just seems like a monumental waste of money. A projector will be cheaper and serve the same purpose, and if you need to write stuff all you need is a bit of chalk and a flat surface. It will never break and it costs next to nothing.

I guess what I'm saying is maybe the education system needs more and better teachers instead of... "smartboards".
well, I doubt that the school would spend a dime on not making them look better or giving a kid a decent education(the people that help that need a wheel chair because of a broken leg or things like that, treat people like they're retarded), so I don't think they would spend ANY money on better teachers.

Fuck yeah.

Every single class room in our school has a big ass chalk board in it.

Although we just wasted all of our grant money on laptops with projectors you can write on.

No one uses them.

My school still uses chalkboards, especially in the math classes. The other ones, not so much as most either use whiteboards or in the case of my History Teacher, a Projector.

i actually like writing with chalk, especially the noise it makes when you write with it (tap tap tap)-- then again, this is coming from a guy who loves the sound keys make when you're typing. :D
Me too :3 It certainly beats the squeak whiteboard pens make.

All the board in our school are white boards. They are cheaper, and superior in every way, using chalk boards just doesn't make sense.

Where do you people go to school that you only see white-boards? Smart-boards are cool, but white-boards use dry erase markers, which I hate. The tips are always bent, they're usually out of ink (people never remember to put the cap on), and they never erase as well as they should. (most of this is true about chalk too, but I just like it better) The only advantage I see in them is that they don't squeak when you write in certain directions... oh wait, they do! 90% of the boards in the last 3 schools I've been in (this includes two universities) are still chalk-based. Most were green, rather than the more traditional black, but they're still just rock. Or whatever that stuff is made of?

Oh, and every classroom in my current college has built-in computer/projector systems, but none of my professors use the projector exclusively, and we all write on the board.

I think the Chalk boards were making the kids sick (which, you know, happens when you're stupid enough to enhale chalk *rolls eyes* but I digress), so they had most of them taken out.

My college has a projector in every classroom, but some people still use the white boards for minor things. I can't say that I've seen an honest to god chalkboard in ages.

Ironically, a lot of colleges use a computer proggram called 'blackboard' to handle a lot of online classes and goings on for out of class professor/class messages.
