NieR. It is a JRPG that did get a lot of crap, but it honestly is pretty great. The graphics are technically dated, but it has a lot of atmosphere. It's an Action RPG with a handful of nice spells to separate it from other Action RPGs, but it switches to different modes. Sometimes the camera will make it so that it's an on rails shooter, a top down ARPG, a sidescroller, and the Forest of Myth has a particular gameplay element which I found really charming. The music is fantastic and the bosses are really good, and the characters and story are top notch. After you beat the game, you can go deeper into the story and find out more about the characters through New Game+, and you start off at about the halfway point in the game so you don't have to do everything all over. Lastly, the game is on sale a lot and it should be around the $30 price range, if not less.
I'll just put in a few bad parts about it though. There's quite a bit of backtracking, the RPG elements are light, most of the side quests are usually fetch quests, and the story is linear. But I didn't particularly mind it, the characters, plot, and music alone were well worth the $30.
