Wow, yeah okay.

You're gonna regret that. I'm all for changing names, heck, I wanna change mine too. (I just can't be bothered with all the legal stuff/confusion yet)

You should choose something a little... less eccentric? To put it nicely. xD

Having "Darth" as a first name is going to alienate you way more than the tattoos would.

[sub][sub]In case anyone is interested, I'd be changing my first name to Sky[/sub][/sub]

First pick: Legato Kaiba (possible nickname - Leg)
Second pick: Siefer Almasy (possible nickname - Sief)
Third pick: Mithos Yggdrasill (possible nickname - Mit)

I wouldn't go with the other two simply because I don't like titles as first names, although they sound pretty cool as last names, maybe something like Vegeta Prince?

Don't listen to people trying to discourage you, I've heard of people change their names to things far more ridiculous and outrageous than anything you've listed here. Like "Optimus Prime", "Captain Awesome" and "Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine The Hulk And The Flash Combined". Seriously. Google it.

I, for one, support your wishes to choose your own name. Other people may give you a lot of flak for wanting to change it to something they don't like, but your right to not be limited by the choices of your parents, in my opinion, is a powerful argument.

The thing is, though, I believe that picking your name is your right, not ours. I cannot, therefore, in good conscience, choose it for you, even as part of a crowd-source. I would rather that you ignore the people in the thread altogether and simply choose the name that you feel most comfortable living with. You're going to have it for quite a while.

I like Legato and Mithos the best, since those are words that actually exist in real life. I get the feeling Seifer Almasay is going to win this poll, because Final Fantasy, but personally, I think Mithos Yggdrasil is pimp as fuck. I'm surprised there's so little support on this forum, populated by nerds, for an entertainment website called "The Escapist," for changing your identity in some small way. You do your thing, Whatislove, and let the haters hate.

Full disclosure, though: I feel like another reason most people are voting for Seifer Almasay is becuase it is the least likely name to get you punched in the dick. Seriously: even when I see "Darth Something" or "Vegeta[seriesofnumbers]" names on the Internets, where anything goes, I want to punch people. I don't know how much worse it would be in real life. There's something very juvenile about these names that just makes me sigh in exasperation. Regardless of how interseting a character Vegeta was or wasn't or how cool sith lords are or aren't, I feel like the other three are slightly more appropriate names for a grown man who isn't an angsty tween who secretly wants to be able to explode planets or kill people with their dark force powers and emo poetry. Still, Seifer and Kaiba both also kind of have that problem to a lesser extent...

You know what, fuck it. I'm voting for Mithos Yggdrasil twice. That's 4 points, right? It's an awesome name with ties to genuine mythology as well as pop culture, and that makes it much more respectable. If someone introduced themselves to me as Mithos Yggdrasil I would be thinking "That's weird, but also kind of awesome." If someone introduced themselves to me as any of those other four names, I'd be thinking "Oh God, how can I get out of this conversation?"

... as an aside, as an American, I kind of feel like the fact that OP is Australian factors into his laid back, cavalier, entirely reasonable attitude about this whole thing.

If you want all of your conversations to be about your name, sure, go bonkers.

I'd say pick the vegeta one, but make it your first name and keep your current last.

In International News, the continent of Australia has gone dark and no new communications from the country have been received in several hours. We are, however, receiving word that networking tycoon Darth Yggdrasil has forwarded his list of demands to the local authorities, giving them limited time to respond.

Personally if you want to change your name, change it to something more creative, something that also have some meaning that only hobbyst or more educated people would get (can't think of anything at the moment but I'm really bad with names). Naming yourself after characters you like is neat idea but it's hard to find good pair of names. I'm sorry but none of your chosen names are any good (IMO). And seriosuly, Prince Vegeta? I get that you like Vegeta (I like him too) but Prince is really pushing it (also in my case, first person that comes to mind is Naseem [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naseem_Hamed]). What is the problem with doing like with other names and gluing two characters together? It would be better if you found some character that is similar to Vegeta in terms of personality.

Or for example get first name same as character and second name as trait invaluable for that character this character (preferably in some other language so it wouldn't sound super stupid for people in your vicinity). Like Takeshi Vegeta. Takeshi written as 威 in japanese might mean power, authority, might, influence, dignity, majesty. Or Gōgan Vegeta. Gōgan written as 傲岸 in japanese might mean pride, haughtiness. This sound pretty acceptable in normal society while still persevering your love for character and also deeper meaning. Getting names in japanese is a double win because it also won't sound retarded for native japanese speakers since japs are named after everything anyway.

Or just go with Darth whatever but don't forget to buy this shirt [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAjdan2TEfQ] for best response.

This too. If you go with any of these names and don't become a corrupt media tycoon, I will be disappointed.

I demand you name yourself Yibb Tstll. You can't get more nerdy then naming yourself an obscure eldritch abomination. Or Atlach Nacha. Or Chaugna Faugn.

Just change your middle name to lazer, it's different, and most people would only know your middle name as L.

Farmstink Buttlass, definitely.

But for real, if you're gonna do this just bite the bullet and go full retard. Change first, middle, and last to the following:

Legato Prince Kaiba von Yggdrasil (it's correctly spelled with only one S and one L.)

Oh man, you know it's a weird list when Max Power seems like the most sensible name suggested. But you've apparently thought this through so I'm not going to dissuade you from this and hereby vote for the Yggdrasil one. Because if push comes to shove, you can just say your ancestors were Nordic or something.

[sub]I'd still totally go for Max Power though.[/sub]

If you don't really mind, I would say definitely go with Darth Cruxis! More people would get it (that is if you want people to get it. If you want to be more obscure I'd go with Mythos Yggdrasil. Make that me second choice).

So let's stop talking about jobs, it's a non issue :)
Mate, it is always an issue. You're an adult, you've heard of many big companies go fubar, times change, economy crashes from time to time. I bet Enron people thought that a job was not an issue for them as well. If you really have to change your name make it well. Vegeta is a perfectly valid last name but prince sounds meh. How about changing your last name only for a start and see how it works? What I mean is that Prince Vegeta sounds odd for someone who doesn't know Dragonball, but for example John Vegeta sounds quite nice for anyone. After all it is supposed to be your personal tribute and a nod to those who know the subject, you're not changing your name solely for the purpose of becoming a half human, half mindfuck.

Seifer Almasy is the most normal. Followed by Legato Kaiba. But Legato would get shortened to "Leg"...and you don't want your name to be Leg. "Legato" is a music term btw which means to have notes flow fluidly from one to the other with no gaps or breaks. So I guess that's a cool name. But Leg isn't.

Seriously though, these names will kill your chances with the opposite sex.

And you'll always be having to explain the name, at which point people will start looking at the ground awkwardly. I'm serious, people may actually decide they're going to avoid you. And let's not hide the phony "Well if they don't want to talk to me because of my name, then I don't want to talk to them" defense.

Tbh your excuses about job security and sex life seem quite short-sighted to me.

In my opinion, everyone should choose their own name. Names are our representations of ourselves to the entire world, yet the vast majority say nothing about us. All we do is memorize them and repeat them. They're repetitive placeholders for ourselves, lacking any sort of originality and depth. This is why memorizing names is such a chore for me.They're meaningless words we've assigned importance to by virtue of tradition.

I'm reminded of the furry fandom, where each animal represents a set of characteristics that certain types of people express more than others. A fox, wolf, tiger, dragon, cat, deer, or squirrel each bring certain images or traits into our minds, whether that be from how we've assigned meaning to them culturally or from looking at the characteristics of the real animal, or both. I can't count the number of times someone has been referred to as their animal in conjunction with an adjective when people have forgotten their name.

"Oh, yes, you remember? The short fox from last week? He was sitting across from the tiger with the handlebar mustache!"

The names of species being more memorable than actual names of people is particularly telling. But why can't we have names like that? If we had names that reflected our own personalities or interesting things about ourselves, I don't think I'd have as much trouble remembering them. Names are supposed to represent ourselves, and any step taken by someone towards that goal, no matter how strange or sad, is a step that won't be criticized too heavily by me.

Yes, I understand that how this guy is identifying himself is a bit strange. These names are tied to characters instead of concepts. This person is taking someone else's identity and giving it to himself because he either is like these people or idolizes them. I think they're shitty names and that this person needs to figure out who he is instead of becoming obsessed by adopting another's identity.

But if he feels that he wants to take this step, I'm all for supporting him. He'll realize that the name does not reflect him and he'll change it to something that will sometime in the future.

And as for advice? You've talked about Vegeta more than anything else in the thread, OP. This is the definition of flipping a coin because you can't decide something, then picking the option you hope is chosen by the coin while it's in the air. It's Vegeta. I have no doubt in my mind, and neither should you.

I hope you have fun with the name while you're able, and that you mature beyond it to something that fits you as you grow.
