The other day, I had found out that I was not romantically compatible with myself around the high school freshmen area. I learned this by taking a test I made on quizilla.com. This, is actually fine with me, for I do not (like most people) own a time machine and also I do not (like most people) wish to have sex with myself. After multiple moments of contemplation, I could narrow my reason down to 3 words.

House of Leaves

This book changed my life, and made me matured my mind in many areas. Just wondering if you guys could possibly narrow down what changed your life the most. It can really be anything (besides breathing).

Realizing that I was a great guy. Seriously, one day I just looked at myself in the mirror and thought: "I am a really great, awesome guy." And from that day forward, I was happy.

You are the only other person I've seen on these forums that has read that book, kudos man.

I agree with Deathkingo, House of Leaves is pretty perspective-shattering.

READ IT!

Whats changed my life the most is probably removing myself from the 'mainstream'.

I don't listen to the radio or watch TV, like ever.

When someone showed me the Soldja Boy video I thought it was an over the top parody of rap music, and laughed the entire video through. Apparently it was popular and he was showing it because he liked it. Oops?

Seriously though, its hilarious when I talk to someone about something I like thats obscure and they're like... huh what? And then they talk about something popular under the assumption I'll know what they're talking about and I give them the same reaction. Also I like breaking down the misconception that just because something is more popular its better. Thats actually a logical fallacy and completely untrue, in fact I bet many of the best things in this world fly completely under the radar.

While I'm happy that you found enlightenment in a cup of soup, so to speak, I have a comment or two to make.

{1} I really don't think Quizilla is a reasonable authority on compatibility. They make fun personality tests, but they know as much about compatibility as astrology knows about your cheese sandwich.

{2} I had House of Leaves as an assignment for one of my classes in college. Not the first time that I've been exposed to books with so many layers that you need a machete to cut through them all and find the real story. Unfortunately, while this is hailed and farewelled as good writing, I didn't like it. Call it a personal taste if you want, but another argument from me is that you take from this book what you will because there may not be an actual story here at all. I'm sure it makes you think, but I'm not sure it's entirely writing. (One of the other books I'd previously read was Flaubert's Parrot, which I can safely safe told us something in proper.) There's alot of modern art that looks entirely random too, and you can say that it's entirely meaningful there too, art being in the eye of the beholder, but it still looks like squiggles and paint-spattering.

Oh, and something to change my life over? Nah, I'm good, thanks.

I've never had something that just totally changed my perspective on things. It's usually a series of small less notable occurrences in my case.

I dont know what caused me to change and mature faster then all the retards im around at school.

The only things i can narrow it down to was the constant bullying i had early on in life, My failure to understand Basically 99% of peoples reasons of liking things or supporting things, and depression i get alot(though they may just be from me still being young)

I honestly feel like a black sheep from the rest of my school and family

I used to be like any other 13/14 year old boy, but in between that time, i made a change on my outlook on life and i don't know how, I used to be happy with everything, but now im not, and right now i wish I had never made the change.

If there has been something, I don't necessarily recognize it.

To be honest, the phrase "changed my life" fills me with inexplicable dread and revulsion. I've honestly yet to figure out why.

Well, I was shopping for men's underwear with my mother for a stocking stuffer for my uncle, thinking that clothing of any kind is a horrible gift, as men don;t seem to care much about stuff like that, feeling sorry for all the fathers who got ties on Father's Day. Then I was staring at the packages of men in their undies & thinking how thoughroughly unattractive they all looked.

I am a D-cup, so I'm pretty used to people not looking me in the face when Im talking to them. A coworker I was having lunch with actually appologised for looking at my boobs, so I point my finger & say "That's okey, cuz I was looking at hers."

You are not original/special/unique there. Everyone goes through that "phase" eventually. I did and I'm guessing so did 90% of the escapists did as well. Don't worry, you will eventually grow out of it and come to your senses.

Shonen Jump magazine manga.

I grew up without friends, and couldn't get along with my classmates for years. I was always getting into fights, and many of them were poorly chosen. Things got so bad, that I had to be home-schooled mid-way through my freshman year of high school (a few death threats on my end and theirs... But hey, I graduated at 16.). Shonen Jump Magazine had started circulation in the US around the time that I started college. For the most part, I found the themes of friendship inspiring, and decided to use those characters as a loose inspiration for how to get along with people. By the time I had graduated, I had found out that I had somehow become popular, and had the respect of my peers. I even got to lead the senior project. I discovered the same thing when I graduated from grad school. I still don't have any friends, but I get along with people a lot better than I did when I was younger.

When I learned of death I realized all things are fleeting. Yet, I find myself laughing more and more each day.

one of my friends. they stuck by me when everybody else around me left me to the dust. we help each other as much as we can, and it's always been that way since the day i met them. they've helped make me a better person.

as far as my musical life goes..Marcus, the vocalist for Heaven Shall Burn. he got me passionate about metal. he made me want to be a metal singer, which i'm working on. because of him i feel in love with music after all the crap that's being pumped out day after day. all the repeatative vulgar crap that nobody cares about. yes i'm talking about Three Days Grace, and Nickleback mainly as well as pretty much ANY rap from 1995 onwards. Heaven Shall Burn made me see that music isn't dead, and there IS still hope for it. well..these guys as well as Angela Gossow and the Amott brothers of Arch Enemy..

What got me out was my refusal to feel that way. I did a nice turn around, declared my manhood, and refused to ever admit weakness in any form. Then I joined the military. Been a badass ever since.

When my best friend in grade school moved away.

I used to be so happy and carefree when he was around.

Now I'm just a sad, angry, spiteful husk of a human being.

So it wasn't a positive change, but then again, very rarely is change ever positive.
