How much time do you invest in making your character look: awesome, like you, funny, or whatever?

I usually try to make a character in my own image the first time through any game, if I like it enough I'll play as a female and if I liked it enough to warrant a third playthrough I'll just try to make myself look ridiculous.

I'm a bit anal about my characters, at least when I play a game through the first time, I spend no longer than 5 minutes though. Usually just checking out the features and stuff.

For the first time, quite a bit. After that, I just usually go with default. Or try to make the character look as fucked up as possible.

NOTE: Feel as though I should say, thats not mine. Although I did make one that looked just like it(only with reddish hair).

First character I always try to make look like my love. Second character is usually a very much exagerated version of how I saw myself growing into as a kid (generaly very punkish.) If that's not available, like in Dragon Age, then I will go with myself, or close to there-of.

I often spend a lot of time trying to make a character look cool, get frustrated, and end up going with whatever preset face I find I hate the least. But at least I can usually handle clothing customization and stuff like that pretty easily, so I'll often spend plenty of time on that too.

I try to just make something I can put up with, and somewhat project into. I at least took effort in Mass Effect 2 to make my guy somewhat different, without looking as screwed up as Irridium's.

I used to go for female characters simply because they're hot, but I found it's kind of hard to identify with any of the game's occurences that way, and she always inevitably starts looking as bitchy as Lara Croft.

I usually just scroll through the presets, pick one that I like and just tweak things like hair color (almost always through preset colors) and style and eye color. And I don't really invest all that much time in clothing.

Porbably about an hour, depending on the felixbility of the creator and the variety of options to choose from. I've probably spent about 8 hours making 4 characters in Champions Online, for example.

Depends what kind of game it is really. Like I went to the effort of making characters of me and my friends on SoulCalibur IV, but on other games with limited/awkward customisation (e.g. Fallout, Saints Row) I generally go for the best I can do and then focus on clothing.

I also generally just make female characters, because the male character voices are usually kind of 'macho badass dude' rather than 'strong, skinny, silent but can hit your head from a quarter mile away guy' (i.e. me).

Holy shit I'm crying over here man XD That's hillarious

I don't change too much, or I'd end up with something like that. I just change hair/skin color

I usually spend a shit ton of time on character creation, trying to make my character look as much like me as possible or, failing that, trying to make the sexiest man-beast I can with the tools I'm given.

Depends on the game and how inspired I am.

Plus, how permanent things are. Since you can always redo your look in Saints Row 2, I never spent too much time on the face and stuff.

When editors are difficult enough to work with, I often randomise the face until I get one I like.

When I'm inspired and the editor is good, I'll spend a lot of time.

Depends on what game it is...

If its realistic, I'll try to make my character look as "cool" as possible...

If its anime, I'll create a girl, and try to make her look as similar as possible to one of my various original characters that I draw...

I spend a lot of time customizing characters, I just find it fun.

I mostly go for a scruffy Scottish sort of look on my main guy.

It takes me about an hour to make a character I like. If the character creator is shit, I'll just hit random until a decent looking character is randomized.

My process usually goes like this:

Step 1: Spend hours and hours trying to make the character look right.

Step 2: Realize that what you've created is an abomination.

Step 3: See step 1.

Step 4: Enter a rift in the space-time continuum and avert step 2, create a character that actually looks good.

Step 5: Realize that your character looks retarded from a certain angle, promise to not let it bother you.

Step 6: It will bother you.

Step 7: (dejectedly) See step 1.

[sub]EDIT: To be a little more on-topic, I usually start with trying to make my character look like someone from something else, then let it go from there. Sometimes this leads to inspiration. Other times, ruin.[/sub]
