Seriously, has anyone played games whit a character that every NPC knows but you don't and they (developers) don't even tell you who they are or where they came from... Most of the time. Yahtzee talked about this in his Orange Box review ( Dr. Magnussan shows up at the end of the game and every character (except you mute main character) seems to know him and talk about his famous works and such) but I wanted player opinions too. This happens in game books in some series more than the actual game and that character before wasn't in the game or book.

Please rephrase that so it's a little more... understandable and less... hectic sounding...

EDIT

Maybe if you gave an example?

Yes. But that's because I didn't play the first game.

Anyway, did anyone else hear about the guy that died on the luge track? That's sad.

Take it to the off-topic.

OT: You mean people like Dr. Magnusson? Or what? Rephrase that so we can understand.

Buddy on FFX-2, though Yuna didn't recognise him either, then you check on the airship on X and he's not there? WTF!?

I suppose The Illusive Man would be a good example.

No one in Mass Effect 1 even mentioned him, but in Mass Effect 2 he's suddenly famous among all main characters.

In video games as opposed to real life? Well, when I first played X-men Legends, I had no idea who half the characters were. While I knew most of the popular ones, such as Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm and Beast, I had no clue who, say, Psylocke was (let alone why she was Asian but had a British accent.). It was only when I started reading comics that I was able to untangle the tangled mess of continuity most comic books were tapping into.
The game was pretty good, though.
