Maleshep. Every time I see the 80% statistic my mind boggles. How can Mass Effect even be that popular if 80% experience that fucking guy for the entire game.
You do know that That Fucking Guy is exactly the same as his female counterpart; or I suppose, the same in the sense that he is just as much decided by the player as Femshep is.

You must be referring only to the difference in voice acting, and while I agree that Femshep has a better actor who does a better job, Manshep does just fine. What I honestly don't understand is how he annoys so many people to such a degree. He's fine.

Bioware gathers statistics directly from the game save data.

About 80% of Shepards created are male.

The Femshep crowd are a very vocal minority. And I say that as someone who prefers Femshep for the voice acting,
i picked male shep because his default face was slightly more bearable(except when he tries to smile or flirt) than the female one in ME1 (and i imported my file since then). making a custom face wasnt an option. i tried it(with male and female) and the result was always an abomination.

besides that, i agree with TheVampwizimp. the only difference besides looks is the voice (which is completely fine for the maleshep); both versions are equally bland.

Boba Fett

He has a single line in one of the movies, and is killed by a blind Han Solo. As far as secondary characters go, he has a pretty small role, and there are hundred of named characters that has more screen time and more protagonism in the series. Yet a lot of people treat him like the ultimate normal badass of the Star Wars universe, he is almost a class in many SW games that puts him on the level of Han Solo and, in the new movies, he was the prototype for the empire stormtrooper.

He even has a spin off movie in production. That is like giving Lorth Needa or Kit Fisto his own movie (which, by the way, would be a lot better than a Boba Fett movie)

Mordin Solus

I just don't get it

He's an annoying Hollywood "nerd" stereotype (like those two dimwits in Pacific Rim) and he's a fucking psychopath to boot.

I was glad when he took a bullet in the suicide mission and I made a new save in ME3 just so that I could kill him myself.

He's the Jar Jar Binks of Mass Effect.
That doesnt even make sense.

First of all the hollywood nerd stereotype is, im smart, and awesome and special but woe is me I cant relate to people cause im sooooo nerdy and no one gets me. (like those two guys in pacific rim.)

Mordin gets along fine with everyone, talks with complete confidence, has a fairly standard line of work and no one even calls attention to the odd way he speaks. Hes just diffferent.
I dont see how hes anymore a psychopath then commander shepard or anyone else who KILL PEOPLE FOR A LIVING. It seems like you immediately wrote him off as soon as he opened his mouth.

The jar jar comparison Is beyond overboard other then an abnormal speaking pattern they have nothing in common.

Come now, of course I know they are the same other than some of the gendered conversations, I ran through a hell of a lot of the possible permutations in ME2.

I found that while default MaleShep had a better face, you could make a custom Femshep better with a little effort. However my archetypal femshep was had a buzz cut and a pretty plain face. I didn't care about my bad-arse space marine looking pretty, but I wanted a personality behind that tough visage.

ME dialogue is not that great. I wouldn't fault anyone for calling it boring. But Jennifer Hale absolutely makes a difference, she fills out those bland tough-guy lines whether malevolent, benevolent or neutral with a depth of feeling hidden underneath the threatening edge. When she is sympathetic she seems genuinely concerned without being maternal, when she is angry she is serious and to be feared. No matter what you tried to get out of Mark Meer, he always just seemed to be phoning it in. It was just all bland stoicism and the queries you make to get other more interesting characters to speak. Shepard is an uncomplicated character, but Meer's job didn't even feel like a character. He made Shepard a device.

I'm not sure how widely loved she is compared to other minor characters but I hate[d] Ginny Weasley with a passion. I nearly stopped reading the Half-Blood Prince when seemingly out of nowhere Harry realized/decided that he was in love with her. Cho Chang might have had her issues but I liked her far more than Ginny and I hated the way her relationship with Harry ended. That big gripe aside the whole falling for his best friend's sister thing in the end felt so cliched and contrived that it ended up being one of the reason's why I never got around to reading the last book in the series.
Yeah, Ginny was quite a "meh" character, and I think Harry got with her more because J.K. Rowling felt like she needed a main character to be Harry's love interest and the fact that she had a crush on him in the first and second year was enough of an excuse. Then again, I didn't really like Cho more or less than Ginny either - had a bit too much of the "girl next door" thing going on, for my liking. Well, I was quite indifferent to both of them.
If true thats a real lame duck excuse for putting them into a relationship, Rowling could have done much better for Harry than Ginny. Breaking up the status quo and putting Harry and Hermione would have been a much better move than going doe-eyed for his 'best friends little sister'. As for Cho I got that "girl next door" vibe from her too, I guess I just didnt see it as being a problem in the same way you did. The two of them working through Marietta's ratting out the DA and Cho's lingering feelings for Edward I mean Cedric could have been well done if that route had been taken.

I've seen this choice a few times in this thread, but still: Chie Satonaka from Persona 4.

Gameplay wise, she is useless: Teddie has better magic and Kanji can wreck anyone with physical attacks WITHOUT using power charge. It seems to me that she was meant to be some kind of jack of all trades, but she really IS master of none. Yosuke JoAT too, but he is the only party member that uses wind magic, he has pretty nice physical skill and he has nice buff/debuff potential. Chie however lacks in every aspect. Oh wait, she can do Agneyastra. That changes everything *sarcasm*.

Story wise, while I do not think she is bad, I fail to understand the reason for her being a, errr, "waifu" number 1. She is, while not necessarily stupid, quite foolish, quite aggresive (I understand kicking someone for breaking a DVD in a school, but everything else seems a bit much) and her S.Link wasn't the most intersting. "I want to protect people." Um, then do it?.

Anyhow, I am not saying that she is a bad character, or that I dislike her, but I fail to understand the reasoning behind her popularity. Hmm, maybe it is because she doesn't really have any problems and is happy-go-lucky girl, I don't know...

I get the feeling this might just rustle some people up a bit, but I don't get the love for Chie from Persona 4. I can't stand her. She's loud, constantly loud and it drives me insane to the point where I don't want to play the game.
Out of curiosity, did you play Persona 4 or Persona 4 Golden? Apparently they changed the voice actress to find someone who sounded younger. I thought the original actually sounded pretty mature, and added small touches of emotion to the character. When I heard the new girl, I thought I was listening to a bad fan dub. She was loud and whiny, I couldn't tolerate her.

As for her popularity, I think she has the whole "girl next door" thing going on. All the characters in that game are great though, so I love the whole cast : P
