Its not a game, but the scene where the ape from: "planet of the apes: prevolution" first talks, or rather screams was absolutely awesome.

I thought Sonic did, but can't say for sure. It was weird watching them talk in the Sonic cartoon.
Nope, Sonic did indeed start off as silent, then start talking. In the voice of what I can only describe as what I'd imagine Vanilla Ice would sound like if he'd inhaled the contents of a helium balloon. Seriously, WHY?!!

I mean, I absolutely loathe Sonic's contemporary Dynamite Headdy. (Haven't heard of Dynamite Headdy? There's a reason for that.) But as obnoxious as he was, at least he was MEANT to talk. Sonic is meant to do two things: run fast and look awesome. The moment you give him the voice of an overconfident brat, you just kill the character stone dead.
You're talking about this Sonic.

For better or for worse, this has been Sonic for the past decade. And he does talk, a lot.

Yeah... it's been about two months since I posted that, so thanks for the attention I guess!

Anyway, looking at the two pictures... what immediately strikes me is that the first Sonic looks every bit the plucky underdog. He's just a little guy yet he looks as though he's about ready to jump on somebody's head. That Sonic is ready to GO. He looks both determined and kinetic.

The second Sonic, on the other hand... straight-legged, cocksure, a sarcastic smirk on his face. Doesn't he just scream "douchebag"? This guy's too busy striking a pose to go off saving the world or anything. What annoys me the most is that damn finger. Don't you be pointing that thing at me, asshole!

I mean, if that's what Sonic has become, then no wonder his voice acting is so obnoxious. But once again... he wasn't ever meant to talk! And that becomes painfully obvious whenever he does!

Gordon Freeman is fully voiced in half life 3 :p

Others have pointed out Saints Row, which is probably my favorite example considering they not only became voice acted but got a choice of a number of different voices (exact number depending on the game).

For a non-game character Longshot from Avatar the Last Airbender only speaks in one episode long after his introduction if I remember right.
I heard they re-used voice assets for "Black Bolt" that were recorded for a now-defunct Fantastic Four video game for Gordon Freeman.... pay close attention and they sound exactly alike... I mean Gordon is exactly like I'd expect Black Bolt to sound from reading comics and everything... I can't believe nobody heard about this or noticed the coincidence before now.... :)
