Exactly what it says on the tin. Simply put forth one or more characters whom you think would make a good companion to the Doctor, whichever one you prefer. The characters can be from television, film, anime, video games, whatever you want.

For my part I'm going to to put foward:

Alyx Vance(Half-life), a smart and capable action girl who probably wouldn't blink at some of the Doctor's stranger enemies. Plus it would be nice to see her play off of someone who can actually speak back.

Hermione Granger(Harry Potter), in regards to personality and temperament she strikes me as being almost the archetypal companion although I'm not sure how the Doctor would react to the whole witch thing.

Data(Star Trek the Next Generation), with his high intelligence and fascination with humanity I think he actually has a lot in common with the Doctor. I'd also like to see his take on some of the Doctor's enemies, such as the Cybermen.

Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw(This very website), because if nothing else it would be really funny.

Susan Sto Helit, of the Discworld, purely because she would disapprove of almost everything about the Doctor, I feel, and her straightforward no-nonsense attitude would be a good contrast. Plus I can see a blend of Whovian and Discworld humour as being quite complementary.

Alternatively, good old Arthur Dent of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He's already been in space before, but he'd be a great companion. He could even compare the experience with the Doctor and his past adventures (he might even surprise the Doctor with one or two facts even he didn't know about).

Kurisu from Steins Gate hands down. I mean come, she built a time machine based off a microwave. I can also see her personality conflicting with the Doctor's leading to both hilarious and interesting moments. Plus when the Doctor starts to babble on about science she'd probably understand him perfectly.

Data is more or less going to be a companion with the Doctor against the Cybermen with the new Doctor Who/Star Trek crossover comic. Or has everyone already forgotten about that...?

Isaac Clarke (dead space 1 version where he doesnt talk).
He would be an amazing Doctor Who companion. Any problems the doctor cant handle with brains (which are very few) Isaac can solve with his foot! Hes also a great listener, and follows every order perfectly (Cross your heart and hope to die, stick a needle in your- OH GOD WHY WHY WHY!?!?!)

No Isaac? Fine. John McClane. Hes got a quick wit, cool temper, and would be the bad cop to the Good Doctor! Hes like MacGyver! If MacGyver used firearms constantly, and wasnt afraid to take the life of every Russian hitman in the building.

No Jhon? Fine. Then i present to you, Professor Layton! Any puzzle or problem, the Prof can solve. And whats a better combo then a Doctor AND a Professor? Diligence, Intelligence, and Quick decision making are all key when time/dimension traveling! And he brings them all to the table.

No Layton? Geeze your picky. Johnny Depp. What? He doesnt need to be described. Hes Johnny F*cking Depp! He could take his shirt off and any problem related to the female gender would become non-existent (possibly some male too, im not one to judge). If he can put up with Tim Burton on a daily basis, he can put up with the Doctor's slightly less insane antics!

No Depp? Whats wrong with you?!!?!? Theres no pleasing you is there?!? Last go, i elect God (as portrayed by Morgan Freeman) to be the next Doctor Who sidekick! I mean, what more do i have to say? Hes God (Morgan Freeman). Imagine is voice following the doctor everywhere they went. It would be amazing!

Batman because he is Batman. The Kevin Conroy voiced Batman from the animated series or the Arkham series. I think Garrus would make a good companion as well.

Scorpius from Farscape.
Megatron from Transformers.
Kratos from God of War.
Alex Mercer from Prototype.

Am I doing it right?

in before Garrus?

The doctor always seems to have one bad-ass companion, and he's less annoying than River.

On a related note, maybe River, off'f Firefly?

Actually I hadn't heard of it until now. This must be remedied!

Read The Man With No Name [http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3486089/1/The_Man_With_No_Name]. Trust me.

OT: I vote for Agent Washington of Red vs. Blue.

Kara Thrace - Battlestar Galactica
Nikita - Nikita
Teyla Emmagan - Stargate Atlantis
Kira Narys - Deep Space Nine

Basically what I'm saying is I think Doctor Who would be greatly improved with the addition of a kick ass sexy ninja sidekick... Enough of this helpless damsel in distress business.

Unless said damsel is Karen Gillan - Papa, Hotel, Oscar, Alpha, Romeo.

Let see
Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)
Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop)
Rorschach (Watchmen) or Deadpool (Marvel)

Pretty much anyone who is willing to get their hands dirty via violence which the Doctor can never do.

Yoko Littner - You know why

Alex Mercer and the Doctor..... the horror of that would give Lovecraft a run for his money
