Everyone in (the newer) Battlestar Galactica except Adama Sr., Tigh, and the smoking doctor. And maybe the Xena Cylon.. she hasn't pissed me off yet (just finished season 2).

Actually, the Wheel of Time had kind of a strong feminist undercurrent that got really preachy after a while. I disliked most of the female characters in the series as a result. The men were treated largely like either plague dogs or idiot man-children. The women were mostly pretentious and stuck-up, assured of their superiority in a way that makes my teeth grind. Few were genuinely likable.
Thank you. I agree completely. The only female character I liked was Brigitte (and Min at first, before she wore dresses).

I don't think the undercurrent was feminist though. Quite the opposite really when you think about it. The female characters all acted like chauvinists think women in power would act.

For my own list:
Ashely Williams - Mass Effect
Antonio - ACII
Aerie - Baldur's Gate 2
Alistair - Dragon age

...wow. I guess I have something against the letter A. That wasn't intentional, I swear.

-Ryu and Ken. The online community has ruined them for me.
-Sasuke Uchiha. I know that after a certain point we're supposed to start hating him, but for me, I hated him for much longer and for entirely different reasons.
-Black Star. I'm 5 episodes in Soul Eater. If this guy would shut his mouth, he'd probably be my favorite character. But he NEVER shuts his mouth. EVER.
-Desmond Miles. So far, he's not a character, he's a plot device. Hatred for him went down slightly in Brotherhood, but I still kept thinking "Can I get back to playing as Ezio now?"

I got more that I'll post when I feel like it

Meh..eh, everyone has their likes and dislikes.....I do agree, if we did things ala Excel Saga, then my dislike for Hinata would be nearly gone.

Gordon Freeman

Who the hell is he? Why does everyone love him? He has less personality than Keanau Reeves for fuck's sake! The only time I get any information on his character is when it's being delivered in second-hand exposition.

Half-Life 2 is great and all, but Gordon Freeman just might be the absolute most boring part of it all.

Gordon Freeman is supposed to be you. You if your name was Gordon Freeman and you worked as a theoretical physicist. His emotions are not defined at all so you can fill in the blanks. It's sort of like this.

If you have a character that's predetermined in every way, it feels more like you're controlling someone who's on a quest, making it harder to jump into their shoes. If they don't really show anything, it becomes a whole lot easier. That's why nothing has happened yet with Alyx, it's because it would ruin that feeling.

and furthermooorrrr....
>valve fanboy engine out of steam. switching to alternate

Woah.. sorry about that.

- That girl from Final Fantasy 7 (the meek one who gets offed).
- That main dude from Gears of War.
- That mopey main guy from Assassin's Creed (the first one).
- Patrick from Spongebob.
- The son of the commander in Battlestar Galactica.
- Obi-Wan Kenobi in the clone wars.
- The big tit alien woman in Mass Effect 2.

I'm so indifferent about some of them I can't bothered looking up their names. Some of them only annoy me from time to time. But they all suck when they're trying to get me to like them.

Record Stops, I can understand you hating Naruto and Hinata as a generic anime couple, I do too, but I like Hinata as an individual, although she is kind of brushed aside a lot. She at least serves as good comic relief.
I tend to hate Shy girls unless A. They're ridicuously hot. B. They have glasses, if they have glasses then they're a Nerd type shy girl and therefore WAYY more likeable. C. They're a better option then every other girl in the series.

Is it because he's a whiny little ***** that sounds like a 13 year old boy in Mass Effect? Or because he was a whiny little ***** that sounds like a 13 year old boy in KOTOR as well? Ialmost stopped playing Mass Effect when I realized it was the same voice actor that played Carth in KOTOR, I couldn't leave Kaiden to blow up fast enough on Virmire.

You Fail because you hate Black Star. Dude's fuckin' awesome. And he's a better Ninja then Naruto ever was at the start, he gets better later. Sasuke is a major douche, can't argue that.

Thane from Mass Effect 2, along with Miranda, Jacob, and Grunt. None of them made me really want to care for them at all.

Thane was the only one with potential for me to like him, and what happens? He turns from Stoic, Badass Assassin to Whiny, Emo Manwhore.

Miranda naturally came off as bitchy from the moment I first heard her voice.

Jacob is token black guy, 'nough said. I was hoping for something interesting about him, but no. Nothing.

Grunt. Grunt is one I have mixed feelings about. I mean, after having Wrex in ME1(a real, awesome Krogan) Grunt just felt...inferior. I never detected anything from him that made him feel "Pure" or better what-so-ever than your average Krogan. I mean, Christ's Sake, I thought the Shaman on Tuchanka was more interesting than Grunt.

I'll stop here before I go on a tangent on why I think ME1 beats ME2.

Ted Mosbey in How I Met Your Mother, he?s supposed to be the good guy who can never find the woman of his dreams, but most of the time he comes off as a pretensions docebag in most of the stories (although to be fair, I think he is supposed to come off that way)

What comment? You didn't post a comment.

Eh I can't really think of any characters that I really despised (except for the villians that are just real assholes). I'm generally not someone to really get too angry against someone on a consistant basis. I mean there has been a number of times where I've cursed out the allied AI in some games for being so fucking brain dead (Get this fucking Jockey off me Rochelle! No don't just walk past me, take a couple seconds to get it off, then go help Nick. Well now that he's dead, come help me. Finally, now just - wait, where are you going? No don't help Ellis, he's nearly dead! Help me you stupid *****, you - agh great now I'm dead too. Great job.) but that's more because of the AI rather than the characters themselves.

I'm sure there have been a couple though that, if I thought hard enough, I could think of. Just can't list any off the top of my head.

And I never understood the hatred for "bland" characters. I mean, yeah I can understand you being uninterested in them, but hate? Really? Eh, its probably just people misusing the word again [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.249225-How-come-no-ones-allowed-to-hate-stuff-anymore#9199788].

I rarely hate characters. Very few EVER get on my nerves. I.E., Jar Jar never really bothered me. No, I don't like him, and I do think he's a poor character, but he just never brought out the hate in me.

That said, one character that I wil NEVER like is Ariel from The Little Mermaid. To date, this is the only Disney theatrical feature that actively pisses me off. Why?

She's a selfish, thoughtless Mary Sue who suffers no consequences for her actions, learns nothing from her mistakes, and goes through no development throughout the movie. Her motivation is just to get the love of a man whom she claims she loves after just watching him dance and play a flute and then save some of his men from a storm. When she doesn't get her way, she seeks the help of a witch who tried TO OVERTHROW HER FATHER (this was revealed not in the movie, but in the original cut of the villain song), and gives up her voice to the obvious cheat. When she fails to have the guy kiss her after three days, her father just goes ahead and takes the punishment for her while her love interest kills the villain. She solves NOTHING in the plot, and gets everything she ever wanted at the end without earning an ounce of it.

The character's popularity as well as the movie's confounds me. Yes, the animation and songs are great, and the villain kicks ass, but its just not enough to make up for an awful heroine and water-bland hero. Worse still is that I have to reluctantly thank the movie for revitalizing the 2D animation industry for at least another decade, as without it, the "Disney Renaissance" wouldn't have happened, which means Aladdin and Hunchback of Notre Dame, two of my favorite animated films, wouldn't have been made, as well as inspiring Warner Brothers to kick off their TV animation boom in the early 90's, which means Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Freakazoid, and probably even Batman: Animated series(as well as the rest of the DC Animated Universe) would've never happened.

On a more minor note, I can't stand watching Starscream in the old G1 Transformers show. For having started a character trend of being a second-in-command who the boss knows he wants to take over and tries to at each chance he gets, he is embarrassingly bad at it. Watching him announce his plans WHILE he's doing them makes me facepalm every time. Even when Megatron lays the smackdown on him, both verbally and physically, I can't stand that he just doesn't destroy him because, watching the show, Starscream is actually pretty incompetent. That makes me like him less because second-in-command characters are often my favorites because they HAVE to be competent. Also, his voice is the closest to ear-sodomy-rape I think I've ever heard in a voice. But since I never really liked G1, this matters pretty little to me.
