Characters you hated until they died or the end of the game. Basically, which characters did you hate during the game, but look back more fondly on after death, or after the game ended?

Personally,

Walking Dead Spoilers
Ben from the Walking Dead. I was kind of annoyed with the way he just sulked around and took up my resources, but when he was asking to die, I just couldn't let him go. His death in Episode 5 was perfect for him; a little childish, unsure of what was going on. A fitting end for him.

Dragon Age: Origins Spoilers
Loghain from Dragon Age: Origins. His last line before you kill him shows that he's taking it like a man. Made me go back in the next playthrough and take him into my team. He is actually one of my favorite video game characters.

Just to name a few. How about you, Escapists?

EDIT: Thought this would be obvious, but a few ground rules:

1. Spoiler tags. Please

2. Please identify what you are spoiling in the tag or above it. Kinda defeats the point of Spoiler tags otherwise.

Jacob, man he was boring, but when he took that rocket to the face I felt really bad. It really put the whole "suicide mission" thing into my head.

It's been a while, but I've been playing Tales of Graces and I remembered one specific guy from Tales of Symphonia.
Botta.
Kind of a standard "was evil but is now good" thing going on with him, but he was always a dick when he was evil, so even when he was good I didn't like him.
Then his death scene happens. Basically he allows your group to escape while he deactivates a self-destruct thing but after doing that the room starts to flood. He's just chill as fuck and is happy knowing he did his part to help however he can.
Tragic as balls, yo.

BlazBlue True ending spoilers

Nu/Lambda dies protecting Ragna in the true ending. I liked Lambda but I never liked Nu but the entire clusterfuck of story elements kept me in a constant state of confusion regarding this Sector Seven, Idea Engine, Prime Field Devices, Murokumo units and AHHHH PLOT WORDS! FUCK!

Basically Nu/Lambda dying gives Ragna the power to beat Hazama. Sort of. Hazama still comes out on top in the end because he's a boss

And Nu was Lambda? Or Nu fused onto Lambda? Or something? Hopefully this makes sense once I find the flowchart on how to unlock Lambda's story mode. Lambda just gets teleported into other character's story modes at random to fight them... Geez nice one Kokonoe.

Not spoilering bad endings because they're just for giggles.

Tager dies in his bad ending (not surprising, everyone dies in their bad ending) With Kokonoe shouting down his tranciever the whole time asking what the fuck is going on, getting more and more distressed. I hate Tager but that was actually a good scene.

Fuck Tager though. Stupid grapple characters and their damage and command grabs...

Oh and I automatically hated Carl because he's the child character and I loathe them in general but in his bad ending Nirvana gets ripped to pieces in front of his eyes and he can't do anything but beg Hazama to stop killing her. That's just horrible :(

I swear it's like bad endings are just tools to make me warm up to characters I never liked before...

Really, there were none that I hated that usually died, usually they were my favorites. Such as Yusuf in Assassins Creed: Revelation. But then again those games mainly took place back in time so they are dead in Desmond's time..

Not spoiling the AC3 for anyone who hasn't played

That damned horse in Shadow of the Colossus. Always getting in my way when I'm trying to hunt lizards yet I honestly felt bad when it went off the cliff. Then the damned thing is still alive at the end with injusries that would have any other horse shot.

That's a hard one, I mostly feel assholes are rightfully punished.

Farcry 3, I actually liked the character though.
Sam died just to piss you off, he was the single most likable character in the goddamn island and hoyt kills him and cuts your finger, that scene was infuriating especially how Jason just stands there.

Got to agree with Dragon Age
Loghain as much an asshole as he is was honourable but... I'd still rather take Alistair than him.

Mass Effect
Saren was just trying to save the galaxy from the Reapers, he thought he could take the indoctrination and then he suddenly realizes it's all fucked up and suicides that was a TOTAL /respect moment

Final Fantasy IX:

When Queen Brahne dies.

Throughout the entire first half of the game, she has caused nothing but grief. She destroys entire cities, which causes people to demonize Vivi even though he did nothing wrong and she attempts to execute HER OWN DAUGHTER after extracting the eidolons from her.

I absolutely despised her all the way up to the end of Disc 2. Where Kuja turns on her and sends Bahamut to destroy her fleet. The look of terror on her face as she was about to get blasted actually made me feel sorry for her.

What was worse was the aftermath. Garnet goes to her mother's side and the Queen apologizes to her for everything she had done. And then she dies. And despite all the things that she did, people still remembered her fondly and gave her a proper burial. And Garnet still saw her as her mother. It was at that point, I couldn't bring myself to hate her anymore.

You know, I went into Mass Effect knowing that I was going to lose someone.
After much consideration, I decided it was going to be Ash, because she is the worst character on the team.
So when Virmire came around I was geared up to watch Ash take the bullet for the team, and quietly salute her for it.
Then she killed Wrex.
I laughed like an evil genius when I left her to die.
Moral of the story: I disliked her before Virmire, but I absolutely loathed her afterwards.

Aside from that, I tend to stick with my opinions about characters, regardless of whether or not they shuffle off their mortal coil by the end.

Suikoden 1

Gremio, he was just whiny and over protective and although that made sense for his character he got annoying and he wasn't much cop in combat compared to others. But his sacrifice was pretty awesome.

Well, when that girl in Dead Island with the blue jeans thing and the stupid white top that I can't remember the name of FINALLY died there was actually a roar of joy over the voice chat. All 4 of us that was playing had gone the entire game just wishing we never had to deal with that character again, and finally it happened... Unfortunately not soon enough, the game was pretty much over by then...

For me, Joffrey Baratheon from A Song of Ice and Fire. I hated him with a passion when he was around and was so satisfied when he died, then... nothing. He was gone, the story moved on and Tommen took the throne, but Cersei was really in control this time. I realised how much I missed Joffrey, or more accurately his actions. Of course I hated him and what he did but he was interesting and did things. As soon as he was gone Cersei took centre stage at Kings Landing and Feast for Crows was essentially a one woman show of her screwing up everything she touches. I miss that blonde haired jerk.

I wouldn't say I hated him but he was a colossal pain in the arse throughout Killzone 2, but the scene after you defeat him where he shoots himself rather than let you capture him...I dunno, it gave me a weird kind of respect for the character.

Also, he's voiced by Sean Pertwee, who is the coolest ************ on the planet.

The Walking Dead:
Ben as well. When I found out he gave the food to the folks attacking the motel, I seriously wished there was a sequence to throw his skinny ass of the train.

Ironically, I only chose to let him die because I assumed there was no real way to save him. I know there was an option to save him, but I assumed it would only end in him getting torn apart from the zombies.

I later checked out Let's Plays of The Walking Dead with other choices, and found that you could save him. I felt immensely terrible knowing I let him die when I could've saved him. As much as I hated his guts, it pained me to know I had the power to save him.

It's pretty amazing how much a video game can make you care sometimes.

I like how people put theirs in spoiler tags but give absolutely no indication of which series they're about to spoil. Fantastic use of spoiler tags there guys.

How about the end to Red Dead Redemption?

The big duel between Jack and Ross at the end, after our little exchange and I left him in the water. I didn't hate him anymore... and that's it. No reward, no catharsis, no moral victory. I killed a retired old man in his prime, bringing back neither my family or shattered childhood, nor justifying the amount of deaths I had caused directly or inadvertently to reach that point as either John or Jack. I had no family, friends, or loved ones to return to, and I had abandoned any chance for a normal or better life my father had made countless sacrifices for in pursuit of a pyrrhic victory. At the end of the day Ross will still be hailed as the hero by the unknowing populace, and no actions I could take would be able to change that perception or clear my father's name. From nothing I came, to nothing I returned.
