Also, Alistair from DA:O. I know he does have a lot of fans, but they're mostly female. Any guy I've spoken to doesn't like him. He was a character written to appeal to women I think - and I am one, so it worked xD
I wasn't aware Alistair was disliked. I thought Alistair was a total bro, and his banter with Morrigan was great.
Heh, it may just be the guys I'm friends with. None of them like him.

I don't know why everyone I know of and those I encounter on the internet don't like Tidus from Final Fantasy Ten. People on the internet and real-life tend to say or portray him as either being overly girly in comparison with other Final Fantasy protagonists, whiny, not as well characterised and various what nots that most tend to say about most FF game protagonist anyway.

I feel that he is a nice change away from the 'angsty', 'dark' and 'brooding' main protagonist that most Final Fantasy and Japanese role playing games tend to have like Squall Leonhart, Neku Sakuraba and etcetera. He's funny, he's happy and throughout the game, he brings a smile to my face since he's so upbeat and quite refreshing, since I played a lot of Final Fantasy games.

I admit, he does have daddy issues but I think that's what makes him likeable and 'real' because he's back story can be easily related to a player who may have some of the same issues. I can't say the same for Cloud and Squall and to some extent Zidane (although he's my favourite character too) because they all have back stories that are more fantasy based (a super-powered soldier, an orphan mercenary whose somewhat an asshole to everyone and a circus thief) that I see commonly in fantasy books. Tidus is a celebrity sportsman that plays water polo underwater. For me that's new, refreshing and rather interesting for a fantasy protagonist to be and made me more curious as to how they'll develop such a 'normal' character in a fantasy game where they carry swords that are bigger then themselves and can summon magical creatures.

So for me, that was the hook and the main reason that I liked Final Fantasy Ten. His rather 'realistic' characterisation helped immersed me into the game that is very well known to be cinematic and cut-scenes heavy and almost had me teary-eyed in the end with his 'death'. (although they ruined that by reviving him in X-2 -shakes fist- CURSE YOU SQUARE ENIX!!)

TL:DR? - He's more real and easier to relate to that other FF protagonists.
And I thought I was the only one who thought like that!

Also, I like Anders in Dragon Age 2, so I seem to be in a very, very small minority.
I'm sorry, what? Anders wasn't in Dragon Age 2, sir! Surely this is a jest?

A good portion of the characters in FFXIII, especially Fang and Sazh. Useful fighters as well as interesting designs.

Er...

Yeah, he was. He was kind of one of the most plot-important characters, in fact.

Raiden wasn't that bad, and Caesar in F:NV was actually a pretty cool guy.

He militarizes tribals and doesn't afraid of anything.

HEY! LISTEN! HEY! LISTEN!

Does this annoy you? It doesn't annoy me. Keep at it Navi.

HEY! LISTEN! HEY! LISTEN!
The owl was so much worse than Navi. Navi was actually helpful sometimes, the Owl told you a bunch of shit you already knew and then tried to fuck you over with the "Do you want to hear that again?" pop-up with "Yes." as the default answer.

Rock Lee from Naruto. So under rated.
Well funny with guy too.
Lee is awesome, his fight against Gaara in the Chuunin Exam arch is one of my favourites.

But i'll pick Navi, i prefer her over Tatl easily.

Sorry, sir. Where exactly is Anders in that image? Is this like a 'Where's Waldo' puzzle? I just don't see him.

All I see is Emo-Charlie healing a hobo. No Anders.

/Sarcasm off.

I know Anders is a character in Dragon Age 2. My point, poorly made though it might have been, was that the Dragon Age 2 Anders is in no way related to the Anders in Awakening. It isn't just a shift in personality based upon experiences, it's a different person entirely.

Oh please, the only difference is that he complains a lot about the templars and such. And his personality became a lot darker, don't make it out like its a completely different person. Its called character development.

Not really at all. He's just not as happy. Happens when you've got a vengeful spirit living in your mind.

Personally, I liked him more in Dragon Age 2 than in Awakening.

Well, apparently, from what I've read here, everyone hates Desmond from Assassin's Creed, which kind of perplexes me, since I've never seen that dislike anywhere else.
I like him, and I think his story is one of the main reasons why I continue buying the games. (Apart from the fun gameplay, of course.)
They hate Desmond? Seriously? He's my favorite character from the AC series, even if you almost never get to play as him.
As for another character I like that most people don't, Alex Mercer from Prototype. People keep saying that he has no personality, but in reality, being a merciless mass-murderer is actually a personality, albeit a flawed one. Still, he seems to be perfect for his role in the game, being a narcissistic sociopath with no memories fits all that killing.
Yeah, gotta go with Desmond. I've seen loads of hate for him but I can't see why. People say he's bland but I disagree. Maybe it's because he's voiced by Nolan North. He was a bit boring in Assassin's Creed 1 but it wasn't really about him. His story became a lot more interesting in Assassins Creed 2 and Brotherhood.

Also;

People seem to prefer Frank West for some reason. Frank came across as annoying to me and all he cared about was his "scoop". Anyway, I PREFER CHUCK DAMMIT!

That annoying fan in Oblivion...well I never LIKED him, but I never found him to be annoying. Quite humorous actually.
I liked how he would follow you up to the top of Mt.Whatever, where you can push him off and kill him without the guards coming to call you Criminal Scum.

Squall, hey may be an emo crybaby but he gets the job done.
I liked Squall too. I liked Zell too and the entire gang in FFVIII, especially Laguna. Most importantly though, I absolutely love Quina from FFIX.

He almost always turns up in a thread about "the most annoying games character" but I actually like the poor sod.

Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2, I like him because he represents the player. Everyone hates him because he isn't "manly" which is ironic because the people playing Metal Gear Solid (myself included) aren't manly, they're just couch soldiers.

He is YOU!
