Love To Hate
Navi - HEY LISTEN

Hate
The mouthy professor dude in Half-Life 2 ep 2. I have tried and tried to take him out, but it never works.

If I talked about characters I loved, we'd be here a while. So, for short, I'll just say Caim from Drakengard (see avatar picture) and Yuri from Shadow Hearts.

Love
Yuri Volte Hyuga from Shadowhearts. This guy is a true hero by the end of the second game and rarely gets overly serious like most rpg heroes.
Not just one, but TWO people beat me to this one? Dammit, I love you both. Yuri is too cool for everyone else.

Love: Manny fucking Calavera from Grim Fandango, Yuri from Shadow Hearts, Frank West from Dead Rising, Kaine from Nier, Chie Satonaka and Adachi Tohru from Persona 4

Love to hate: Luca Blight from Suikoden 2, Dr. Fetus from Super Meat Boy

Hate: Notch creator of Minecraft, the idiot behind Ubisoft's uPlay, Tidus from FFX, Sephiroth from FF7, Seifer from FF8

Several people in here seem to hate characters for entirely stupid reasons, but I'll keep those to myself so as not to start a huge flame war.

Love: Wally West. It doesn't matter where he appears, Wally West is not only the greatest of the Flashes (IMO) but probably the greatest of any comic book character ever. He's powerful, he's goofy, he's actually HAPPY, and he's an all-around nice guy. It doesn't matter if it's as Kid Flash or the Flash himself, I've yet to see a portrayal of Wally I haven't loved.

Love to hate: Darkseid. He's changed a little over the years, but these days if there were ever a more perfectly evil being in existence, Darkseid would probably find out and vaporize them. He's a god, he's evil, he's brilliant, and he's so awesomely smug about the whole thing.

Hate: Speedy/Red Arrow/Arsenal/Roy Harper. I know a LOT of people hate him, but it's really for a good reason. He was cool once, but then bad writer after bad writer got to him and now he's just another Jason Todd. Even the reboot couldn't rescue him from the scrappy heap, though it should have since the events that made him turn evil NEVER HAPPENED NOW.

EDIT: Just now realized all my characters are from the DCU. Huh.

What's your beef with Notch? Just out of curiosity (I don't even play Minecraft).

great thread btw, some much needed venting going on, least from me anyway X3
Thanks! Also, thanks for resurrecting this thread. I'd like to see it hit a second page, but I hate to "bump" my own threads. Maybe once, but after that I want them to survive on their own.

Love: Vegeta : DBZ; From the start i loved him, he was awesome, so arrogant and so proud, seems like any old evil jerk from the start, but he has deep internal problems with the loss of his race and the death of his Father.

Love to Hate: Azula: Avatar; I completely agree with you OP one of the best written villains i've seen in a long time, Talented, Deadly, Smart, Very Manipulative, Resourceful, just makes the perfect villain.

Hate: Yahiko Myojin : Rurouni Kenshin; Never seen such an useless character in my entire life, a whiney brat, always trying to be Kenshin and shit, screwing things up and just ruining any good moments.
We have a fan of Vegeta, eh. I can't disagree, though. He was an awesome character. I always thought he was at his best on planet Namek killing off all of Frieza's goons. That was just perfect. I also loved when he saved Goku from 19. Because he wanted to kill him. Really not sure who I liked better. Vegeta or Goku. Vegeta was just the perfect antihero (and I like characters that just remind me of him), but Goku had much better fights and it's really hard to not like him.

Hey, there was a reason I picked Azula for my Love to Hate. She's really the only person I truly saw as a villain. Ozai spent the whole series at the capital. Kinda hard to be threatening as a villain when we never see you. So, Azula outshines her father by far. She would probably outshine him even if he was more active in the series.

I think I should start by stating that I love your idea of what Darkseid would do to a more evil being. Also, that what makes a great love to hate character. Just being such an evil and sadistic bastard.

Funny that you chose characters that were all from DC. Was that a conscious decision or did it just happen? I could have choose three from a single series or game, but thought it would add more weight to select various character from various series. That was a conscious decision on my part. And don't feel that you have to select one each and leave it at that. You can love, hate, or love to hate more than one character.

It just sort of happened. My mind has been on DC stuff as of late, what with the relaunch, Arkham City, and having downloaded most of the DCAU on iTunes.
