Hmm, characters who didn't add anything.
Classic example is Big. He didn't add anything at all. It would've been forgivable if he hadn't had the personality of a particularly benevolent troll. (I'm referring to the type that lives under a bridge, not the internet type, though that type may also live under a bridge.) I actually have a mostly merciful outlook on the rest of the cast, though Shadow probably shouldn't have been resurrected as it ruins the impact of his sacrifice at the end of SA2, though some would argue it was a case of "back by popular demand" as opposed to just plain lack of imagination on the part of Sonic Team, though I'm more inclined to believe it was also a bit of executive meddling.
I can't really think of any other serious examples... yeah, characters like the guild master are annoying but thats more a case of bad character design than being genuinely useless. I suppose the hero could've by-passed him completely and just had Maze training him, but then it would've just been Maze's annoying voice in your head instead of the guildmasters (Until a certain point in the story of course.)

Jar Jar Binks. I was still young when Episode 1 came out so I still loved Star Wars, and it was before Hayden Christensen ruined the series. Jar Jar was really the only really bad thing in Episode 1 so I blame him for the downfall of Star Wars (well really I blame Lucas but ya). They should of killed him in Episode 3, would of made that movie so much better. Who would not break out in applause if Vader just crushed him or something.

Besides that Hammer in Fable 2. Not only did she make me want to quit playing, she made me turn evil. If that is how good characters are represented in the game, then screw the good side.
Cortana from Halo 3. The first two games she was okay, but when she kept on screaming and whining I wanted to blow her head off.
Tink, from disgaea 2, he's an annoying weakling who forces his way onto your team with a split personality and a horrible french accent, the only thing that made him worth half a damn was that there's nothing funnier than throwing him in front of a big baddie and hitting "end turn" just to watch him get squashed like a prick-faced pancake.
also, while I'm at it, Hoggmieser from disgaea 1, if anyone actually used this character... I'm sorry.
edit: also... Faize from the most recent star ocean... his name itself is an excuse to kill him, his whiney attitude and general lame-assness are just icing on the cake... it doesn't help that he NEVER! SHUTS! UP!!!!!!

Not in every one she doesn't. Sometimes she the daughter of a sage (link to the past) and sometimes its not even ganondorf kidnapping her (4 swords) and sometimes I'm not sure why she's kidnapped (TP). Consistency is not a strong point of the Zelda universe. Look at the triforce; sometimes they want it, sometimes they've got it, sometimes you have to gather it together, sometimes it's nowhere in sight...AboveUp said:

So far, all of my choices have been selected in this thread except for one:
Sephiroth. I feel that now that once he was created every single villain suddenly needed to be exactly like him. The fanboys that praise him sing nothing worth hearing as his character is nothing fantastic at all. This poster feels that it would have been better if Sephiroth was one of those villains you kill off half way through the game leading to the revelation of a much more dangerous foe (Jenova).
