Im building a computer for my parents and I need some help with some parts.

I need a cheap Chassis of a decent size, doesnt have to be too pretty. And a Motherboard, preferable an Intel. It would be nmcuh appriciated with some help finding these parts.

My parents computer is ancient.... 1GB RAM, 256MG Graphics, 256GB Hard Drive, Still running on XP and I think it has a Pentium 4 in it.

Thanks

I found a case [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147023&Tpk=Rosewill%20Blackbone] and a mobo [http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138174] for a total of about $90.

That guide is more for gaming PC's, and doesn't include parts compatible with a P4.
So he doesn't need to buy a GPU, he'll save money.
Also, pretty sure he's just telling us how poor the old machine is, not what he's putting in the new one.

Well, yeah, but it makes no sense to buy a new CPU if his parents aren't going to be needing it. I'm assuming that all they're going to be doing is going on the internet and checking email, etc.

Of course, but if they're just doing that than the old machine will work like a charm, or if he really wants to get them something new, he could get them a netbook.
Just trying to provide the best hardware for the best price so he doesn't have to quit being lazy. :3

I don't understand how saving money is being lazy. The OP asked for an Intel mobo, presumably so that he could just put the old CPU in, and not buy a new motherboard and a new CPU.

If he were building from the ground up, then yes, using the AMD CPU and mobo from that guide would be best, but the fact that he asked for only a case and mobo makes me think that he already has his parts.

You should be able to source a cheap generic case with PSU. Then an intel motherboard to run a Core i3 (1156 socket), which would mean both CPU and GPU are taken care of. Then just some generic DDR3 RAM and recycle the HDD and DVD drives. I'm in Australia, though, so I'm not sure of sites/places to buy.

Give him a guide so he doesn't have to do any work himself = giving him the ability to stay lazy. Perhaps I didn't word that well enough, my bad. If he's using the old machine's parts, why build a new machine? Just pop in another gig of RAM, an extra fan and heat sink and overclock it. I guess we could help him better if we knew for sure what his parents are doing and why exactly their current machine isn't good enough.

If he already has the rest of his parts I'm guessing he's either been to a store or has searched online, in which case he should already know where to look for the parts he still needs. Though the guide also gives tips for what to look for and where to buy, so if he knows what product he wants, it'll tell him what he should be looking for that product to have.

A new mobo and new case is pretty much useless when you're going to keep that ancient CPU. Just buy a new, very cheap system, like the first or second one in the guide GofficK gave.

You're welcome.

Price/quality-wise it's way better to just buy that new machine costing 355, or hell even the 216 bucks one. With the parts he already has, buying a new mobo and case is just a waste of money.
