How's this? [http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs32/f/2008/224/0/b/Otacon_and_Snake_Codec_by_AngstyGuy.jpg] You don't even need the costumes, just print that out on gigantic paper. :D
That is win.

OT: You could always go as a Spy for TF2 you just need a nice suit and about 9 sheets of cardboard with the class stuck on it.

about 5 rolls or masking tape and some 2 of tinfoil. looks really cool, is really warm, and really cheep. try not to sleep in your own room though, it tends to just fall off.

Cosplay is also socially acceptable at conventions... which occur other than halloween...

but I suppose you could always put on an iron man mask and wear a red jumper. or put on a bathrobe and carry around a toy lightsaber. I think the kid costumes come with them now, so you'll get a Darth Vader mask with it too

Greetings fellow Escapists. It's that time of year again, where for one brief day cosplay is not only socially acceptable, but also greatly encouraged with the handing out of candy and other delicious foodstuffs. But alas, I am but a lowly poor and unemployed college student, who must jump on any opportunity for free food in order to eat every day. The drawback is that I'm not terribly creative, and in fact suck quite hard at coming up with and executing costume ideas, and I know I'm not the only one out there with those particular problems. Can anyone recommend a cheap (20-30 USD)costume that's nice and geeky? While there are other costume idea threads, they're old and don't have a specific budget in mind.
$20-$30 nice and geeky?

a Mortal Kombat "Ninja" (Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Smoke, etc.)

The material cost me $20 and a black T-shirt and I made an exact duplicate

If you're a bit on the heavy side, shave your scalp, get a ton of yellow body paint, a white t-shirt and jeans. You'll look right at home with a beer and some donuts.

Get a large cardboard box, big enough to cover you while stood up.

write "Alice In Chains" on the side.

see if anyone gets the joke.

Go as the green lantern. All you need is a black shirt, black pants, and green duct tape. Make a mask, boots, gloves, and the green lantern logo (on your chest of course) from the tape. It's cheap and easy!

If you have a suit you can do all kinds of things with that, TF2 Spy, James Bond, Blues Brothers, Crazy 88.

Or... Shave your head into a mohawk and buy a green M65 Vietnam jacket from a surplus store and go as Travis Bickle from the Taxi Driver, if people don't know who you are all you have to do is say "You talking to me? You talking to me?" :)

Arthur Dent, you just need pyjamas and a dressing gown.
I second this, brilliant idea.
What about a towel?

You know, Yacko from the Animaniacs would prolly be pretty easy to do. White gloves, black long-sleeve shirt, brown pants, a belt with a big beltbuckle and some pacepaint.
And then everyone'd be all like, "OMG, NOSTALGIA!" *explodes*
Bonus points if you can sing one of those songs:

Could anyone suggest a costume for someone with shoulder-length hair who has an innate fear of cutting it? Of course, it should also be cheap.

I was thinking Shaun (of the Dead), but I honestly don't want to shell out a could hundred bucks for a cricket bat I would only use once a year.
