playing Phantasy Star Online on my xbox. Got to the Olga Flow boss fight of Episode 2 on normal with my level 40 hunter. He one-shot me. At full health. A level 40 hunter. just glad I had a scape doll or two.
Warhammer: Dark Omen. actually manage to kill the dread king, sacrificing most of my troops to do so, only to find out I have to kill all of his soldiers too to win. the cheating SOB. you are only allowed 10 regimens, that POS has about 15! and the fact he himself is probably equeal to 2 or 3 by himself!

The true meaning of sad:

Playing Path of exile with my two exile companion friends from real life, we play in exclusively hardcore leagues because we find it much much more engaging, and we only ever play together. I have built my character around freezing tough enemies for the 3 of us, to keep us safe while were progressing. lvl 66, playing somewhere that is considered to be the go-to place for safe currency farming and my friend wants to try out a new trap he has been tinkering with. This trap involves charging it up, and releasing HUNDREDS of tiny little minimal damage sparks that go everywhere, look kinda cool, and are generally just wacky for the sake of wacky. Now this all sounds in perfectly good fun, until enters stage left, unique relatively harmless unique invader enemy, this guy's gimmick is each time you hit him, he lets out a minimal damage frost nova..... normally harmless to me, but you might see where this is going.

Murder suicide, did not even think it was possible to be killed by another player, crushed my will to play after painstaking crafting and collecting to put together my perfect character who i loved...... LOVED. Gone forever.....

I'm currently playing the Shin Megami Tensei games right now. And while I am really enjoying them, they can be pretty cruel at times.

I'm currently in the middle of Strange Journey and the last boss I fought killed me via getting my MC stoned. When that happened I thought, "Well that was cheap". But then I thought, I could have prevented that if I wore that one ring that prevented the stone status. And then I thought, "Well how would I know to wear that ring for that specific boss?"

I'm not too bothered by it, but considering that demons can't use items, there wouldn't be much I could do if I was caught without that ring.

That's sorta a thing I've noticed with the SMT games I've played so far. You have the tools to prevent stuff like this from happening, but you won't know what tools you need for a specific boss until you already died to it. You CAN beat these bosses without knowing what resistances you need, but it's also just as likely you're wearing equipment that happens to make you weak against a certain element the boss uses.

I'm not sure what I'm trying to say, all I know is that if you get caught unprepared in these games, they're going to punish you.
Oohh. Wait till you get to the last boss, you're in for a treat. I won't spoil it but man i hope your body is ready. Great game though, it's my favorite smt game.

OT: i never feel cheated in videogames , yes RNG sucks sometimes, but it's random it could also be awsome at times. Something about luck playing a part in games fills me with glee . Like in real life, you can be in the right place at the right time just like you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

For me it was the Witch and the Hundred Knight

So anyways, went through the Sealed Prison, had a little trouble fighting Malia but nothing horrible. But then I did the Sealed Prison and had to fight Mega Hunny Knight. Let's just say that on level 99 with all three of my Facets I got 2 hitted. Considereing he constantly spams high damage AOEs and minions it's near impossible to stay alive. First time in the game where I HAD to use Casual mode and it made me feel terrible. Then Aguni afterwards wasn't as hard, but constantly summoning all those dudes was fucking annoying. Finally got a satisfying ending though

So yeah, pretty goddamn cheap and difficult.

On the subject of cheap deaths in PoE: Fucking exploding strongboxes. They can easily kill you in one go, and given the PoE server's tendency to desync means your odds of managing to open the chest and get away in time are basically nil even if you can Teleport.

Wish I could order one of my Minions to open Strongboxes for me >.>
