Since the rise of class based multiplayer people have hated "cheap tatics". A combination of class abilitie(s) and weapon(s) used by someone to earn an easy kill. Most developers will generally put out a counter, though. It still doesn't stop complainers.

But sometimes it isn't just noobs complaining about something they don't know how to counter. There are genuine bullshit manuvers some players use. I'm not just talking about camping, I'm talking about class combinations that require little effort and skill to earn a cheap kill.

I'll start us off with the one in recent memory to me. In CoD:BO there is a gun called the Galil, it has decent damage and accuracy and is rather popular for that reason. Then some assholes decide to add a silencer to it, which means it makes very little sound and won't appear on the mini map when they fire. If that wasn't enough, they use the perks Ghost, making them invisible to spy planes, Steady Aim, so if you catch them off guard they can spray and still kill you, and Ninja, which silences their footsteps and movements.

That combo is bullshit, everyone who doens't use it hates it. I despise it so much I refuse to add silencers to automatic weapons or use Ghost or Ninja on anything but my sniper class. The only counter to it is the Black Bird kill-streak, which you need 6-7 kills in a row to use, so chances are you'll die before you get it. Because all people do with this combo is camp.

Well that's what I believe to be the cheapest multiplayer tatic and combo. What's yours?

Grenade launchers in CoD:MW2. Yes, it's the easiest answer, and there's a frigging good reason for that. The number of times I have died without even getting a chance to engage with my enemy is absurd. I've seen people use all the grenades for their launcher, then toss themselves in front of an enemy's gun, so that they'll respawn with more. People that go entire bloody rounds without firing one bullet. It's bullshit and I can't stand it.

PS: I am well aware of the Blast Shield, it's a pain in the ass to use and most grenade launcher kills happen when you aren't expecting them.

Any combination of abilities, in any game, that lets you stun-lock someone. Stun is a pretty overpowered ability in the first place, but it is usually balanced out by other factors. Anything that lets you use it over and over in a fight is just bullshit.

In TF2, whatever weapon was released most recently almost always needs to be rebalanced for one reason or another, and servers that allow for too many players on a small map, low respawn times, and no class limits seem to have major balance issues.

However, once you make it into competitive and high level play those problems are pretty much eliminated.

Off Topic: When I read Call of Duty as the first two examples two thoughts ran through my mind.

1. Glad I play a game with more strict classes.

2. Glad I play a game that doesn't make me buy it all over again after a couple of years.

Sometimes Medics in TF2 will uber one another, then that uber'd guy uses the uber saw to gain more uber, and then ubers the other guy. It can be annoying, but hardly impossible to deal with

Biggest bullshit class in MW2: One Man Army/Danger Close/anything with the noobtube.
Most common/annoying class in BO: Ghost/Sleight of Hand/Second Chance with Silenced Famas/motion sensor. Camp away, assholes!

These are why people hate Call of Duty

I agree with the fellow that saidd stun locks for whatever game. Nothing more annoying then going about your business and then not being able to do anything for however long the twit wants to play because he just stuns you for however long... WoW had it had with the whole vanish sap repeat till you get bored bit. nothing like any moron rogue able to shut you down for potentially hours cause he wanted too.

Seeing as how I'm a battlefield player first and foremost, and that game is very balanced, I won't give an example from there.

Instead, I'll give you the garunteed two-minute victory strategy in Red Alert 2

Step 1 : As soon as the game starts, build between 5 and 10 attack dogs and about 3 to 5 engineers.

Step 2 : Send them all to rush the enemy base as fast as you can, and have the Engineers capture their central command post.

Step 3 : Celebrate the fact that you just won the game, in roughly 2 to 3 minutes.

For those of you who've never played this game, Attack Dogs absolutely DESTROY infantry, and in the first few minutes of the game all you have time to build is infantry, and Engineers capture enemy structures.

You can probably see why this is so unfair.

Anything with quickscopes, stunlocks and negations of supposed previously class weakspots.

I'm sure there's plenty that can be said to defended this as a tactic, but I can't stand abusive campers in FPS's. We all do it from time to time, usually to scope out an area before advancing. But I'm talking about people who stay in one spot and will not move until they are killed, usually just to return to the same spot. People who base their entire play-style around hiding in a corner. Again, I'm sure this can be defended on a tactical level, but it ruins the experience for everyone else.

I once heard it described as the gaming equivalent to hiding behind a corner and tripping people as they walk by, which I think is very accurate.

You just gave me bad memories of BC battlegrounds. Warriors had no counter to rogues. Fuckers were overpowered and kept calling you a noob who didn't know about a non exsistant counter.

I'm gonna say MW2, scavenger, danger close, scrambler. Then run a noob-tube AR and the auto shoty. That's about as cheap as it gets.

In general, explosives. Explosives are forever the death of me in many games. Rockets, mines, artillery(in RTS), tank shells, grenades, and the noob tube(less annoying in BF, but still annoying) are all the reasons I die 9 times out of 10.

Also Blast Shield does absolutely nothing if they are using Danger Close, which is fucking EVERYONE who noob tubes in that game.

Spamming Pikachu's down+B in Smash Bros is always annoying, and the AI LOVES doing it.

Since I don't waste time with multiplayer games usually, I don't have many exmaples. I do havea a few though.
A buddy in Mount&Blade Warband used 2 pavise shields, a pike, and a warhammer. The hammer can crush through guards and no horseman can get close to him due to his pike. The 2 shields mean bowmen can't do hardly anything either. Only thing that can really do much against him is a long axe, which then he just sits there and blocks until either you break through or someone ninjas you.

Rome: Total War, I HATE people who spam Urban Cohorts and Praetorian Cavalry. Urbans cost about 830, which is quite a bit cheaper than anything that can match them (they can even best Spartans which are in the 1200 range). Praetorian Cav is pretty cheap too and can best the best cavalry in a melee (once I had 4 of them in a straight head-on melee beat 4 of my Cataphracts (who are supposed to be the best cav in teh game and have an armor piercing alternate attack), no outflanking or upgrades or even hill advantages). You usually see 5-6 Urbans and 4-6 Praetorian Cav backed by a few archers and maybe a town watch used as a fodder unit. Even when fully enveloped, they best most anything.

I'll echo Grenade Launchers in Call of Duty. As a good player, there's nothing more frustrating than dying to some no-skill ***** sitting on a rooftop with Noob Tube One Man Army/Danger Close/Commando. Grow a pair, seriously.

Close runner-up would be Commando class. If they get host, just forget about killing them. They can sprint at you at 30 mph and literally teleport through an entire magazine of bullets to knife you. Plus it's almost as skill-free as aiming a noob tube in someone's general proximity. You don't even have to be looking at the person to knife them. That's how absurd it is.

Viper with an M32 and turrets on Combat Arms, god it's so gay. Also the other chick who's name I can't remember with the m4 super 90, that shotgun is stupid and her speed is stupider.

There's also the full bruiser team on LoL, not exactly competitive level play, but in a pug match its just a pain.

1)One Man Army-lets you switch to another class withoud dying(Even the same class)
Scavanger- you can pick up ammunition from dead enemies

Danger Close- Increases the lethal range of your explosives by OVER 9000!!percent. Pretty much if the person is withing 30 second walking distance of your grenade, it's a kill.

Danger Close combined with either of the first 2 is really annoying. Normaly you can only have 2 grenades for your noob tube, but with those, you get infinite.

2)Marathon- Allows you to sprint forever.

Lightweight- Increases your movement speed.

Commando- Increases the range of your melee attack to quite literally 20feet.

Include equipment like the tactical knife, which reduces the cooldown of your melee, and you've got people sprinting all around the map, insta-killing anyone who goes anywhere near them. A player doesn't even need to be on their screen, they can still knife if you are behind them, or around corners. Ridiculous.
