Im curious... This morning I picked up the paper and read about the France Vs Ireland Soccer (football) World Cup Qualifier match.

In said match, Thierry Henry blatantly hand balled in the goal mouth which resulted in a France goal by Gallas... Obvioulsy, this was an illegal play. But none of the match officials saw this, and the goal stood. Thus putting France through to the World Cup Finals.

My question is this.. is that cheating? Should Henry have said "my bad, keepers ball!" - If he had, there would have no doubt been uproar.. but since he didnt, he may very well get penilised for bad sportsmanship etc..

So, who thinks this is cheating? or as the saying goes, do you always "play the whistle"? - Ref is in charge, what he says goes.

Personally, I get away with anything I can. The Ref is my friend.

I get away with what I can, in American Football I frequently throw elbows, knees, and such at the bottom of a pile-up for a fumble. After all it ain't illegal if ya don't get caught.

Henry has been playing for FAR too long to be pulling stunts like that. It's nearly on par with Maradonna's hand of god.
It would be good if they introduce a video ref like they have in rugby, it will mean there will be no contraversial games!

What Henry did was blatant cheating. The first touch might have been by accident, but the second touch was clearly intended to direct the ball.

When I play, I'll play within the rules, e.g. I won't go for an intentional hand ball, but if it's an accident and the referee doesn't call it, I'll play on. So yea, I'll bend the rules, but I won't break them.

I'm too much of a goody-goody

I finally found a working video for it, for those who haven't seen it. It's not the best quality, but you can clearly see what happened. Check it out before Sportfive claims copyright on it like every other one.
