Cheating and Claiming Superiority

My brother started playing Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask recently. But he constantly looks up cheats and walkthroughs to get almost literally anywhere. But then he claims hes just as good as me at these games and mocks that he can do any game better than me.

Have you ever had to deal with this kind of annoyances? What was your reaction?

My girlfriend and I had more than one discussion on what constitutes cheating, and how badly it detracts from gameplay.

I had a friend on the original Unreal Tournament who figured out an exploit where if you inched forward on the top of a giant tower to a certain point, you couldn't be seen from the ground at all, while you had a perfectly clear view of 85% of the map. The only way to kill him other than guesswork was to run across the enormous empty field, climb up to the top of his tower and kill him in close range. Also his perch had constantly respawning sniper ammo and shields.

He then bragged every time he successfully sniped me. Don't get me wrong, he was a marginally better player than me, and when we played evenly it was always a good game, but it just pissed me off massively when he used that glitch.

i hate this to or when people claim to be great at a game because they managed to do the single player before even attempting the online. this was the same when people claim to have a better then you at a game when they have a better kill to death but all they do is quit when they start losing or camp all the time then never play you. infact your example pisses me off the most out of all these but these annoy me to.

Thats just a hippocriate. Cheating should only be done on a sepreate save for giggles. and you should never claim supirioty by them.

There is kinda the same problem I have with Achievement servers on TF2. On one hand, it's 100% cheating, getting achievements without even putting in effort. On the other hand, have you seen some of the achievements for that game? How the hell am I supposed to be able to get 3 dominations in one life WITHOUT a little under-handedness?

Camping is a legitimate strategy, you ought to try it some time; as for k:d ratios it still tracks games you left but gives you a loss or a penalty for it.

They probably are better at the game than you! xD

I find it annoying when people suck even with cheat codes.

In my opinon, it's not skill if you're using the information someone else has provided you. The computer is doing all the thinking for your brother in this case and he has no real reason to run his mouth.

i suck at video games so i use cheats within reason. e.g. i will never use unlimeted ammo or health or anything like that and i only cheat when i feel it will increase enjoyment (like the large mass cars on saints row 2)or if there is a stupidly hard level (like the dreaded protect mission). might not justify but it's enough for me.

BOO! HOO! Cheats are meant to be used! just try playing Mercenaries: playground of destruction without cheats, it tend to get boring.. -nah i'm just kidding!! XD

If someone is using a walkthrough on any game then they obviously aren't as good as anyone who does not use them in the same game.

I can beat games without a walkthrough, but these days I simply do not have the time to explore all the content as much as I would like. I will do one play-through and that's it, and I want to have seen all the content available in that one play-through.

Too make sure I get the most out of my SP games I will often do a section, then look up that section on GameFaq's to make sure there was nothing I missed.

Same if a Puzzle takes me more than 20 minutes to figure out. Can I do it? Certainly. But I have too much other shit I need to be doing with my life to work via trial and error through a poorly designed puzzle that follows no direct source of logic.

However, to me Cheatcodes are a big no no. Using cheatcodes one may as well just watch a "Lets play" on Youtube.

I'll admit, cheat codes in games like Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row 2, and the Mercenaries games are fun as hell, I dare, DARE you to find me something better than raining down destruction likes it the Fourth of July, then again if you have to use cheats for Saints Row 2 something's wrong, I mean it literally gives you unlimited ammo for just about every weapon and one of the DLC things gives you unlimited rockets O_O. As for cheating online I only did it in Gears of War with the chainsaw glitch, and only then it was when me and friends online would play. What's funny is when people start losing, and start cheating, but still get their teeth kicked in.

well no because ive seen people do it before on games like Call of Duty when if you just turn your console off it does count it as a match and therefor when ever you play bad it doesnt count. i no that i works for many online shooter such BS2 cause my xbox crashed and it didnt count my stats from the game it crashed in even though i was doing well. also no camping isnt a valid strategy as it is for people who can only use one hand at once. it means that you can hide and wait for people to run into your line of sight takeing no skill at all. and your saying if everyone camped in one game the game would still be fun dispite the fact that nothing would happen. but i guess your a noob who fights to validate it so people wont know there shit at the game. =D but dont worry thats ok.....
