I was thinking about glitches in games and cheating and i was wondering what everyone else thought.

Whose fault is it, the gamers who exploit glitches or the developers for not fixing them?
E.x. Javelin glitch in Duty 6

It can be both. At first it is ALWAYS the player's fault if he or she actively exploits the cheat or glitch to get the upper hand in multiplayer. However if the developer is aware of the glitch and does not take immediate action to fix or patch it, then the developers are to blame in that instance.

In my personal opinion, exploiting a glitch isn't really cheating. If you're able to do something in a game without hacking it, then it isn't cheating. So yeah, I would say that it's the developers fault for the existence of a glitch, and not the players who use them. To be honest, I find glitches extremely fun a lot of the time, so you might as well enjoy them while they're still around.

Devs should really fix them, luckily Tf2 glitches get fixed fairly regularly unlike MW2.
Maybe a patch will come and sort it all out for you lot.

My main issue with glitches is stuff like the javelin glitch that can now get you banned when the game testers really should have noticed it.

Have to say that both are at fault and I disagree that using a glitch is fair play in a game when you are not hacking or actively changing the program to allow you to get this "unplanned" advantage. Simply put the game has its set mechanics in its set world. Glitches are holes/mistakes that have been missed by the programmers. They are not considered in the game mechanics, the programmers or the usual players. Those who find and exploit them are using something that "should not" be there to get the edge over those players who either A, dunno about it, or B, are unable to counter the glitch. In all sense, it simply is not fair play. Players who actively use glitches are the first at fault for the use of them. The programmers once aware of it should quickly get to work at rectifying it. Still the players will always be the first to blame, think of it as any sport, there are rules to be followed when playing it yet some people will actively find ways to cheat and not get caught. For example, crossing the outside lines in basketball. You can do it, just like you can use a glitch, but it's cheating. Only real difference is that in a sport you got refs who will watch over everything, call out and penalize those who cheat. In a video game, well we all know that's not the direct case. And yes of course people can report and send proof for the administrators and moderators to do something, but no one is there to directly stop it from happening. Exploiting a glitch is cheating, it gives you an unfair advantage, simple as that so I will again say, players are the first to blame. The developers once finding these glitches should do what they can as soon as they can to rectify it though.

bug haters... generally bad players had exploitation of bugs, that's the bad thing.

Never blame the players, A game is sort of like the paint, it tells you the limits. and anytime a player pushes it in a different way, the community shifts... or mainly bitches cause they can't adapt.

I think this hit the nail on the head. Exploiting a glitch? Blame the gamer. Neglecting to fix the problem? Blame the devs.

you can know about the glitch. you CHOOSE wheter or not to exploit it.

I was completely annoyed playing team deathmatch and 4 out of 6 people on the opposing team were using the glitch. then someone on my team(who admitted he used the glitch, too), was actually complaining about the other team. my brain still hurts from that convo....

If a player finds a glitch and exploits it to get an advantage, then of course it's cheating. (From a multiplayer point of view that is). You use something or do something that you aren't supposed to, disrupting gameplay balance.

How is that not cheating?

The player at first. If they knowingly use the glitch as a way to help them win then they are at fault. If it keeps happening, then the developers are at fault. A simple patch could be used to fix it and the longer they delay the more frustrating it gets to play.

I haven't noticed many glitches in multiplayer games but in Fallout 2 theres is this glitch that when you talk to a AHS-9 after killing a guy and havng <4 intellegence you would get 5k xp but if you talk to him again you would get the excact same dialoge and another 5k xp. I found t5his with a mis clicked... and have been abusing it ALOT...

I don't see a problem with glitches. If the dev company actually cared about how people are playing the game they would have done a bunch of quality assurance before going; "The guns shoot, people die and the environment looks pretty. Ok ship it." Now if the community actually has a general oppinion about the glitch its up to them to lite a fire under the devs to get a fix/patch.

Is it something to do with Gamespy? I don't trust it one bit.

My anti virus hates it, so I got rid of it and never used it again.

My opinion on this is the same as my opinion on the whole Team Fortress 2 hats fiasco: I cannot understand or even begin to fathom why/how some people try to justify taking advantage of glitches. I cannot understand at all why/how people support it.

The developer is only at fault if they didn't bother trying to fix it ages after they became aware of it. But that still doesn't ever give anyone the right to exploit glitches. It's as bad as hacking. Whether glitch exploitation is mentioned in the end user agreement or terms of service or whatever of the game you're playing is absolutely irrelevant. You're still cheating, and you deserve the punishment thrown at you.

Admittedly, the developers should try to eliminate all glitches, both before the game's release and as the glitches reveal themselves. But those who use glitches in multiplayer matches are cheating noobs, for lack of a better term. It is really just not okay: it ruins the experience for everyone who actually wants to play. Goof off if you want, but not when it negatively affects the sportsmanship and competition of the experience.
