Cheesecake is ruining me

Seriously, it really is. It seems like the majority of my nerdy dude friends have become cheesies. Not just guys who enjoy cheesecake, either, but harsh, harsh cheesies. One of them has written an over one-hundred thousand word cheesecake fanfic. Another has a shelf full of cheesecake figurines. Hanging out with this assortment of cheesecake-obsessed young gentlemen has gotten somewhat monotonous, as hangouts frequently boil down to them constantly changing the conversation to cheesecake, or showing me various cheesecake videos and remixes on Youtube.

Even worse, another sizable portion of my friends (mostly women, actually) have decided that the whole thing is hideously disturbing. Just yesterday I talked to someone who had decided that the Cheesy community was basically a training ground for morbidly obese people.

As for myself, In small doses, I honestly don't mind cheesecake. It is pretty tasty, I've eaten 8-9 different kinds of it and liked them all well enough. It's not a food that compells me to obsess about it constantly or want to have it as my primary identity or whatever, but it's alright. Except now I find myself constantly being harrassed by both groups; By the cheesies for not joining the bakery, and by everyone else for admitting that I'm fundamentally okay with the idea of a grown man eating so much cheesecake.

Does anyone else have so much goddamn cheesecake drama in their life, or am I the only one troubled by it?

You're clearly not the only one, and you full well know it.

If you listened to some of the people here, then maybe (although I suspect it's usually hyperbole). I honestly can't say so myself; no-one I know in real life knows I'm a fan of the show, and I'd be mortified to try and shove anything I liked down someone else's throat, other than in jest. I'd say you've been rather unfortunate in how your friends have reacted. Whenever I've mentioned the fandom to someone else in passing, the response has pretty much universally been "I don't really understand the hype, but whatever." All I suggest is that you could ask both groups to tone down their views on the show around you. It's pretty ridiculous that people would obsess over or hate on something to the point that it would affect your friendship with them.

"Just yesterday I talked to someone who had decided that the Brony community was basically a training ground for pedophiles."

Dangit, not another blasted pony thread. Only one thing to do. No need to jump in Daystar, I got this.

I hate to do it, but you forced me too. This thread is now about cheesecake.

Bronys are VERY vocal however, I will say that. I love adventure time but I don't slap adventure time jokes everywhere.
You know, I keep hearing this argument but I don't really see it. And I have a DeviantART.

Seriously, am I invulnerable to the madness until someone points it out? It's as if a madman is firing into a crowd and I'm in the center, but not getting hit by any bullets while remaining totally oblivious due to obnoxiously large headphones. Suddenly someone runs past, slaps my headphones off, I look around a bit, and I'm like:

"Hey, that guy has a gu-"

And suddenly I'm a beehive.

Hell, even then I have to actively search for it.

And another a thing:

I never understood how that made sense...But you wanna know what show's main male audience could be comprised of pedophiles?

'Casue like hell they're watching it for the moms...

Cheesecake is ruining me.

Seriously, it really is. It seems that the majority of my dude friends are really into cheesecake. Not just like dudes who like dessert, either, but harsh, harsh "cheesies" (that's what they call themselves). One of them has written an over one-hundred thousand word cheesecake fanfic; I'm honestly impressed he actually managed to find that much to say about a type of pastry. Another has a shelf full of random slices of now-rotten cheesecake. Hanging out with this assortment of various cheesecake-obsessed young gentlemen has gotten somewhat monotonous, as hangouts frequently boil down to them constantly changing the conversation to cheesecake, or showing me various videos and remixes on Youtube (yeah, those exist. I'll admit that cheesecake dubstep is pretty fucking awesome).

As for myself, In small doses, I honestly don't mind cheesecake. It is pretty tasty, I've tried 8-9 different kinds of it and liked them all well enough. It's not something that compels me to obsess about it constantly or want to have it as my primary dessert of choice or whatever, but it's alright. Except now I find myself constantly being harrassed by cheesies for not joining the bakery.

Does anyone else have so much goddamn cheesecake drama in their life, or am I the only one troubled by it?

That's interesting. I've kind of had a similar experience as you but I see it slightly differently.
I don't see it as Bronies being hypocritical because I view the word "Brony" as a neutral way to identify the fans of the show. Instead of generalizing groups as being hypocritical based on my personal observation I like to take a step back and remember that my experiences are most likely different when compared to those around me. As such, whenever I see someone being hypocritical or obnoxious I like to see them as a PERSON being obnoxious or hypocritical, instead of a Brony. After all, the Bronies are composed of people and the more Bronies there are the more diverse the fanbase becomes and it becomes impossible to define all Bronies as having certain characteristics such as hypocrisy or obnoxiousness.

I've found that, if you look for them, you can find any type of Brony you like. For example, my experience on Ponychan's /dis/ board has been very enjoyable and the discussions there are usually very civil. I have seen MANY people who, like you and me, are saddened at the amount of shunning that goes on.

My personal opinion on the matter is that Bronies are no different than a random group of people aside from the fact that they watch MLP: FiM. The problems that you see in the community are problems our race as a whole encounters. Incivility and letting ones emotions control all rational thought.
However, just like with everyone else, being patient and civil can often lead to others (or even yourself) to learn how to be an overall kinder person.

Well I mean one did trapple on my leg- Oh wait you mean that show. For once I would like to be able to talk about actual ponies/horses insted of the show, but thats a completely different discussion.

OT: Don't care for the show, but I agree the separate groups are pissing me off. I don't care for the show, but my brony friends still feel the need to try and indoctrination me while my hater friends think that just because I don't like watching it I must believe it's pure evil.

Nothing ruins a dissusion in our group better than bringing up MLP. This is extremely difficault when two of us ride horses in real life. Whenever we metion ponies you can see what everyone thinks we're talkinga about.

Ooh, let me be the first one to post the group link this time.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/MLP-Friendship-is-Magic

Anyone who joins should untick "Chat notifications" when prompted as the group chat is usually quite active.
I was just thinking that...this morning ME3, ME3, ME3 now ponies ponies ponies. I don't mind really I'm a fan but...it gets old after a while especially when 3/4 of them are people complaining about people who like the show. Like that argument was forgotten/lost a year ago.

We just had a thread like this about MLP and how the OP dislikes the Bronies which got locked
.. so.. uh.. not sure what else to add to this post really. ... ... Okay I guess I can add something.

OT: I used to be a big time Brony. Like, loving the show so much that I seeked the fanart, stories, and feedback about MLP along with other things (had 1 toy of Pinkie Pie, but gave it to my niece after some time). Everything was great when I was a Brony.. but sadly, the community got pretty bad (i'm assuming because it grew so large, a mix of irrational fans became active). Like for example, anyone to dislike the show or question it got bashed by many fans of MLP. I didn't like that, because it's shunning opinions that differ then theirs based on a show.

Also, most of them are hypocritical. Love and tolerate is a popular phrase that's passed along the many fans yet they can't even tolerate each other. How? Because fans who draw (rule 34) tend to be discriminated by the community of Bronies. Sure I am not into that ether, but I don't treat fans who like R34 or the artists poorly. It'd be like treating a prostitute poorly because she's defying my religion (I am a Christian, but trust me.. I don't discriminate anyone for I am not one to judge. Sorry to bring that aspect up, but it was to point out the similarity.)

All and all, I got done with being a Brony. I'm just a fan now who only watches the show and nothing more. Yea, people usually see all fans as being Bronies but to me a Brony is someone who engages in the franchise, doing more then watching the show. Besides, there's one more thing I dislike about the Brony community.. they do things for the wrong reasons. You shouldn't treat people fairly or kindly because a show tells you to or represents love. Instead, treat people like you'd want to be treated because it's just the right thing to do. If you base your actions on a show's dignity, then what will happen if the show goes downhill for you? What shall you give off then? Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Bronies. I'm just criticizing their ways is all. Feel free to debate with me if you feel otherwise.
I'm still a brony but yeah I see where your coming from. I'm starting to see it on some sites. If you say love and tolerate you should...well...love and tolerate. Most don't. I can't really say it's a minority within the fandom as I don't really know but on some stuff I'm shocked at the replies I see.

I don't care if someone doesn't like the show.

I don't care if someone doesn't like me for liking the show.

and I feel no need to attack people who do either of those things.

captcha: Take care. ....fitting for how late this post was made.
