As far as kids naming their ideal teacher to be some dumb celebrity, I can't really see what the problem is. Up until college, my ideal for a teacher was either one who was going to teach me something or one who was going to let me coast by because I knew what they were trying to teach me. And hey, if I have to look at someone for an hour a day, might as well be a pleasant hour.
Though I wouldn't mind Stephen Fry being my teacher.
