It's pretty common for guys playing Mass Effect to pick female Shepard. I don't begrudge this decision, but a popular reason for picking a female Shepard is "OMG her voice actting is bettar!" It's Jennifer Hale. Standard fair videogame VO. I here every role she's done every time I here her. I picked male, because I'm a guy and Mass Effect is probably gaming's greatest outlet to project a personality onto a role. It's a "role-playing" game of sorts.

I was curious if any ladies picked to play as male Shepard, for whatever reason. Will you in 3? I hear there are going to be homosexual romance paths. Not that [I'm trying to be offensive], I just like getting more content out of a game. I did a playthrough as femshep (Garrus is such a sweetie).

Also I picked femshep 4, because I honestly believe Rihanna could save the galaxy if she put her mind to it.

I Played as male in ME1 & 2. I played as a female in Dragon Age and did have a few lesbian relationships. In Fable II i played as a male, and had a threesome with another man and a woman, there was an achievement for doing so (a male and female were not specified it just happened to be a male who was easier to get into bed than chasing another woman) i of course used protection...

I played a female Shepard for 1 & 2 and she will always be my 'main', however I have played a male!Shep.

It's certainly a different experience which is pretty damn fun. I rocked a Mikael Shepard and romanced Tali and I must say I really did love it. I will definitely carry him through to ME3 and play him.

But, as the same as with your reasoning, I will always make a fem!Shep my first character because I can identify with the character more easily. It is just a more comfortable experience.

P.S> I chose fem!Shep 3. That ponytail is awesome >_< She could totally save the galaxy.

As far as I understand it only about 15-20% of male players picked FemShep. Also if Rihanna was anything like Shepard, Chris Brown would be in a wheelchair.

OT: I pick male and female characters. I've never gotten people who buy an RPG (derangedly over restrictive and overused term) and only play once.

I play a female shepard in Mass Effect, but im Male. I just choose what gender suits the game better. Female in Mass Effect, Male in Fallout, Male in Demon Souls.

I'm female, and usually I play male characters.

However for me, Mass Effect was an exception, because for some reason Shepards face scares the hell out of me. I'm not quite sure what it is, but his face is just unnatutral looking and creepy. That's about the only reason I played as FemShep, otherwise I would have played as a male character again.

My paragon femshep Rose is my 'main character' but I play a male shepard for my renegade playthrough he's called Cain and looks badass, old and scarred. I prefer Jennifer Hale's voice acting by a mile.

I'm male and I picked FemShep for my first playthrough. Her voice acting is better, I honestly don't think you're going to see too many people defending Mark Meer on this one. Honestly, I didn't really like the customisation options for the male in ME1, it never really came out right and I felt more or at home (or at least less uncanny valley) with FemShep.

You'd be surprised. Some people swear by him. Some of them get pretty touchy about it.

In the first game, his voice acting was a little iffy, but honestly, it got a lot better with the second one I think. Sure, it probably doesn't beat out Hale, but it's tolerable. I have heard far, FAR worse.

OT: I'm male, so in an RPG, I'll usually play a guy. Nothing against people who choose the opposite gender, it's just personal taste.

Really?! That's the first I'm hearing about it, pretty much every one I've come across seems to be of the opinion that Jennifer Hale was much better in the role. Everybody has their opinion I guess.

I like FemShep's voice because it's sexy. But when Shepard is sarcastic, MaleShep always sounds better.

I play female when it's like, my fifth playthrough and I've already seen everything and I just feel like listening to something new. However I never play renegade as female Shepard simply because I don't think she sounds good at all wise cracking and trying to sound badass. Mark Meer however, I gotta say is a perfect renegade Shepard, but sounds goofy at times when paragon.

I'm planning on getting ME and ME2 once I finish up Half Life and get my university work in order (yes, I am quite behind in the times ;>_>). I'm a female, and I plan on playing a little of both at first and then deciding from there. It will probably come down to the voice acting and the general demeanor of the character.

I'm male and nearly always end up playing female characters in role playing games, ME, Oblivion and Dragon Age, all started with a Female and then tried out the Male characters later.
Personally I just love Jennifer Hale, she's voiced some of my favourite game characters and also I find it easy to make a good looking (not necessarily pretty) female character than a male one... the men always end up looking derpy.

I'm female and I played as a male shepherd my first play through of both mass effect 1 & 2, with most games when you can choose between male and female I play male first, generally (and I did say generally) the male character design is better, most of the time if you can't alter the character you have the standard gaming female, you know big boobs tiny waist wearing hardly anything!

I have played mass effect through with female characters (just so I could hook her up with Garrus) but my male Commander "Dos Santos" Shepherd will be my first play through in ME 3
(quickly followed by Commander Amanda Shepherd, to see what happen between her and Garrus)

I won't get touchy but I do prefer his voice to J Hale's on this one!

Wonder how they can hold a controller(btw googling chicks i less then worksafe >.>).

As far as someone pointed out only around 15% of the mass effect players use a female character. So it isn't that common. I am a guy always use female characters since i feel less connected to male characters.
