I think that female-headed rockers are really coming out more lately. Off the top of my head I can name Halestorm and Eyes Set to Kill, and then there's bands like Paramore, Flyleaf and Evanescence that have been out for several years. I could even go back and name No Doubt, Heart, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

For instrumentalists The White Stripe has a female drummer. Eyes Set to Kill has a female bass player, and their frontwomen plays lead guitar. Skillet has both a female drummer and female synth/keyboard/rhythm-guitarist.

In my opinion, there is always a spot for female rockers. Not only does everyone deserve the same rights if they make great music, a lot of heavier music is dominated by testosterone driven men (Five Finger Death Punch, I'm talking about you... but I'm not complaining) and a feminine voice is a great way to break that up. That being said, I want to point out that Archenemy doesn't really bring much to the table in terms of "feminine voice". That's not really my cup of tea...

My sister is also an AWESOME singer and I really hope she joins a proper band. I mean I love soul music etc but a band would be so much cooler.
What are you talking about?
Proper bands don't have singers.
...ahhh, what? I no get it...
You said your sister's a singer and you hope she joins a proper band.

But proper bands don't have singers.
... you're saying they (the singers) do something else as well like The Beatles? Or are you saying that proper bands are big groups of instruments playing tunes by Glenn Miller and the like? If it's the first then I hate you for insulting Iron Maiden and if it's the second then I hate you for insulting The Beatles.
I'm saying that good bands don't have vocalists. Words just get in the way of musical expression.

... right... no. As somebody who enjoys opera a lot more than most other classical music I'd say I disagree. Are you referring to classical music? Or are you referring to weird random stuff that even crazy old people with dementia don't like. Examples are what I'm looking for I guess.

From what little I've seen from this type of music, symphonic orchestras have plenty of female instrumentalists. Not the type of music we'd listen to often, but yeah..

Also, let me mention Sonic Syndicate for having a female bassist who can sing well too.

Well alright, good to see you back up your blanket statement. But having lyrics doesn't have to impact your musical expression, in fact I feel it often can improve the structure of songs. Besides, that's not the point of singers, "just to say some words" essentially.
I'd love it if my sister sung that.
Besides...

Arch Enemy has a female vocalist. she scares me shitless.
I was wondering if I was going to have to mention this or not. I'm not much for their music, but she is brutal.

I feel like this is relevant:

But this isn't mainstream music in any sense. You seem to be complain that women aren't prevalent in mainstream "rock 'n roll" music.

My response: who the fuck cares?

Or more precisely, people who listen to that type of music don't. If they did, they would listen to better music.
I love IWABO<3. [:
