god they shut down the tuck shop so all i was doing was selling the kids crisps for 10/15p why was that such a crime?

Thankfully i never got suspended my mum complained to them instead.

Sorry, stupid American question here, but is 50p the same as 50 pounds? Because if so, damn. I think I must be getting something wrong here, because there is no way any kid I know would or could pay $100 for a bag of potato chips.

It's a stupid decision simply for the very reason the kid was suspended. Take away all the junk food, forbid it from being within the walls of the school and you're going to have a black market for any of those forbidden items that people are willing to pay for. The fact that they've got other people selling them, and they admit it, proves it's true. And like someone else said, if their parents don't care what kind of food they eat, they'll just eat it when they get home.

An ignorant move that produces ignorant stories like this.

if they banned snacks, they banned snacks, and he deserved a suspension.

It's a shame that it had to come to that, but he broke the rules willingly.

Well, it's for the good of the children that they aren't given a constant supply of fatty food.
On the other hand, banning it makes it seem more desirable than it really is.

I think it's approximately a dollar.

About 60-70 I'd assume, using my terrible knowledge of the exchange rates. Infact, last time I checked the schange rate was about $1.5 to £1 so 50p would be around 75 cents.

50p is the British equivalent to cents. The P stands for pence. We use the £ sign to denote pounds.

Schools, private or public, are under no obligation to cater to the unhealthy whims of kids and teenagers.
Refraining from banning things or punishing people is not "catering."

Schools are places to learn, not to be treated like a prisoner.

Whilst as always, I appreciate the movement from the school, banning non-healthy food is simply ridiculous. School != parents, and as such decisions such as what they eat shouldn't even come into the though process, much less have a rule against it. Sure stop your cafeteria from selling it, send out information pamphlets, but the final decision has to come from the parents.

Edit 2: A crisp is what we call Potato Chips in the UK
Crisps FTW :D

OT: the school really had no right to arrest this kid for selling FOOD to other kids.

I mean...THE SCHOOL isn't selling it right? so why can they arrest people that AREN'T working for the school?

It would be like arresting someone for bringing a can of Soda onto school grounds then sharing it with other students.

Besides, this kid is making great money this way :D

Also, why they hell is his dad bothering to sell snacks to school age kids anyway?
he could totally just get a job and make 20x more per day easily

there was a market, there was an oppertunity, and he siezed it. he's just as guilty as those who buy it. Idk, people need to learn a balance between health and overdoing on both sides. obesity is a problem, but constantly bombarding the kid with health crap and the whole "people would like you if you weren't so..." concept and maybe kids wouldn't make themselves throw up to look skinny.
