There was also a programme with some inventor chap, which was loosely a science education show... I can't remember much else about it though. Was the Crystal Maze a children's show, or was it just that I watched it as a child?
Bill Nye the Science Guy?
Alack, no. It was a slightly shoddily put-together BBC show, as I remember it.
was it Beakman's World?

Looks much too recent and American, I'm afraid.

I watched the hell out of Fraggle Rock when I was wee.
Do you have any idea how long it's been since I've seen that show? I can't even remember the last time I saw it, that's how long it's been.

The best show Nickelodeon ever aired.
LOL I was just watching that intro when I saw your post.

Did that show have an ending or did it get canceled?

It wasn't cancelled, it ended :)
Ah good to hear, sometimes goods shows get canceled out of nowhere.

I really gotta watch it again to refresh my memory and watch the seasons I missed.

Basically, any cartoon that was on Nickelodeon from the 90's. Plus some from both Cartoon Network and Disney Channel.

To be specific: Rugrats, Powerpuff Girls, Hey Arnold, Rocko's Modern Life, The Wild Thornberrys, Pokemon, Digimon...

If I go on, this list will take up half a page.

EDIT: Digimon was on Fox Kids now that I think about it.

Digimon, Sam and Max, Powerpuff Girls, Animaniacs, Freakaziod and Courage the Cowardly Dog were probably my favorite as a kid.

Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Hey Arnold, and Samurai Jack are the ones that come immediately to mind, though I watched almost any 90s cartoon that came on. Those, and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, as I grew older.

Why did any of these shows have to be cancelled? The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack were awesome.

Battle of the Planets
GI Joe
Transformers
Voltron
M.A.S.K.
Jem and the Holograms
Dungeons and Dragons
Gummi Bears
Duck Tales
Animaniacs
Tiny Toons
Old School Daffy Duck before they neutered him and made him Bugs' second banana
...too many to name actually. I think I grew up in a really good era for cartoons.

That is my favorite cartoon of all time. "A quack in the quark" is the best episode of all time. (It is on Youtube). Beetlejuice was great, too. (Also has a few episodes on youtube)

There were others, but those two are my favorite
