Come one escapists. You all know you had one. What was your embarrassing childhood phobia? To be honest, mine was balloons popping. I am over this now, but back then it was like poison to me. So again, what was yours?

Commitment.
I could never choose just chocolate or just vanilla...
How could anyone make that decision?!?

Being caught lying. It was such a freaky thing when you're little, and the adults always seemed to know. From what I recall, the kids in my family quickly learned to either be dead honest or much better liars.

"Balloons popping" is likely just a sub-category of loud scary noises. Mine was automatic toilets...not sure why, really. o_O

Two things, Porcelain dolls and having my back to an outer wall on the first floor of a building. The dolls still creep me out a bit, but am mostly over that one. The wall thing I am still paranoid about. Always feel something is going to break through and grab me.

Your probably right. I got migraines very easily as a child.

Fear of vampires
Fear of lethal spiders spawning under my covers at night.

Those are the phobias I had as a kid, and then outgrew.

Right now, my only phobia is Wasps. I had that as a kid too, but come on, I got stung twice as a little guy, and those things are nasty, angry little things!

I hated that feeling, when my stomach turned because my Mom knew I was lying to her...

But I was deathly afraid of water. I would scream in fear if I was held in a pool or the ocean. Now, I love swimming, so it's funny how I grew so differently.

Styrofoam, I bit on it as a toddler once and still every time I even think about it I get that nails-on-chalkboard feeling.

Insects, dogs and heights all got to me.

I've conquered most of my fears, still get a little spooked with heights even though my job has me climbing roofs....bugs still scare me to death though :S

I still intensely dislike handling other peoples' dirty dishes. Not to the extent that it's a phobia, but it makes me feel very... unclean. I have to wash my hands instantly after handling said dishes.

Good thing it wasn't often expected of me as a child, though perhaps that would've helped me not feel how I currently do about it.

Water. I don't mean any water, just large volumes of it. I hated going to the beach, heavy rain made me feel horrible, and swimming pools terrified me.

Which is my justification for not learning to swim until I was 15 years old.

Also heights. I've still kind of got that one, but nowhere near as bad. I just feel a bit nervous when stepping out on a high-up balcony.

Well it was short lived, but for weeks after watching the 50s War of the Worlds film I was inwardly terrified of street lights, always moving past them quite quickly. They looked a lot like the heat rays on the alien flying machines.

I never had a childhood phobia that went away as an adult...My phobias are my reflection in a mirror, and deep water. They're not very serious phobias, but they disturb me all the same.
