I have quite a few pokemon cards, including a first edition Charizard that I can't bloody find. :(
Not that anyone at my age actually played the game. We just collected cards and tried to get as many rare cards as possible. Which is a shame, as the game is actually pretty decent.

My sister and her scumbag bf were into Yu-Gi-Oh for a bit a while back, getting to dust off my massive collection and thrash them around was really fun. Magic. F-ing. Cylinder. All day, every day. She'd attack me for like 10000 or greater and I'd just flip that and win without ever having dealt damage.

Also, Magic because Magic. 13+, beaches.
This is actually one of the reasons I like Yugi-Oh over Magic.

Magic is fun and a great game, but I feel like it's a slower game and you can just make a cursory look at the field most of the time and know who is winning. It's very difficult to make a come back, though it can be done. Hell, I've made some game winning moves in one turn, though it took three or four to set it up.
Most Magic-games I play are decided by turn four, and over by turn 7. The exception is if you've been drafting, or you're playing against some douche with a control deck. It's possible that Yu-Gi-Oh! is faster than that though, it's four or five years since I last tried that game.

Comebacks are hard, though, at least in constructed formats. Which is one of several reasons why I love drafting. I made like three big comebacks in the seven games I played in a draft last week. =3

I remember collecting the Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic the Gathering cards way back when... didn't play with them, I just had them.

I'd make my own TCG game... but I don't think I could come up with a good rule set...

Hello fellow escapist-ers(?)

Let's have a discussion about childhood nostalgia, in the likeness of CCGs!

So recently I was going through some of my old crap when I came across a shoebox filled with some of my old Yu Gi Oh cards, and goddamnit now I'm getting back into the damned game. Most of my cool, rare cards have either been lost, stolen, or traded away over the years, and now I want to collect a bunch of the old cards I'm missing (Thank christ for the internet). Upon browsing some, I discovered about a year ago or so they released a special thing that came with all of the god cards and the first six booster packs that came out, I was pretty intrigued, until I saw most places were asking sixty bucks for it. But I was wondering around a grocery store today, and I saw it in their card game section, and it was only 25 bucks, so my childhood getting the better of me, I decided to buy it- and... wow...

I was rather disappointed in it. I was informed prior that the cards were reprints, but it seems like they changed a whole lot about the game. The cards feel different, look kind of different, and hell, they even smell different (Don't judge me, I did weird things as a child) I made the mistake of opening all of the booster packs, and probably scrubbed off a lot of the sets value in the process, and it wasn't even all that fulfilling with the cards being so... weird. But alas, that hasn't killed my spirits. I've seen a few people selling the god cards, which I didn't care that much about anyway, for a bit more than what I bought the set for, so maybe I can get my money back.

But anyway, Has the game changed or have I just gone crazy?

Another thing, Does anyone know where to get the more classic Yu Gi Oh stuff? Any good websites that sell old cards, singles, boosters, starter decks, or otherwise? I'd really like to get one of those old starter decks just for the hell of it, but I'm not sure what websites to trust and whatnot.

And a final note (And TL;DR, kind of)- Any other children's card game collectors out there? Yu Gi Oh, Pokémon, (I'm not sure if I should include Magic the Gathering on this list, seeing as how that kind of presents itself in a more mature fashion), miniature games, etc.? Do you have any fun experiences of nostalgia you want to share?
Depending on where you initially stopped playing and when you started up again, the game has indeed changed quite a bit.

Here are some quick bits that are the most significant changes:
*Everyone knows how to play the game with the actual rules (Season 1 of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! had no clue)
*People tend to use more Effect [Orange/Brown] Monsters than regular monsters because the effects make them more useful than Normal Monsters
*There are a few new card types (Spirit/Tuner/Synchro/Xyz/Divine Beast) that dramatically change the way you play the game and allows for a multitude of strategies and deck recipes
*It has become a seriously competitive card game with the inclusion of the above cards, both on table top and online
*On top of all this, there are new cards that will be introduced latter on this year called Pendulum Monsters, that will also completely change the way we play the game

In regards to cards, there are several sites that offer a wide variety of cards at fair prices. The one that I have used before is Toywiz.com. They allow you to buy singles, booster packs, starter & structure decks, box sets, tins, and other cards. They also offer a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh! stuff like card sleeves, figures, and other collectibles. The shipping is around $7-8, which is reasonable if you are buying a lot stuff. Other places to look for is Amazon.com and ebay; caution about ebay, though, as there have been some buyers that don't ship the right stuff. However, if you check their rating/reviews and are only going to buy a few, inexpensive cards, this is definitely the way to go.

I still enjoy collecting Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, even though there aren't many people to play with anymore. Plus, I'm on that intermediate level where beginners don't really stand a chance and experts can completely school me. I still like to play around improve and create new decks, just for the fun of it.

Growing up, I was also really interested in the Pokemon TCG. I actually got my hands on a lot of rare cards and I just had them as a collection. I gave them to my sibling and they are just lying around in their room somewhere.

The only other card game that I really enjoy playing, even to this day, is Uno. Even with two players, this game can get intense and go on for a long time.
